What do you do if you have everything except the lead? (track link up)

Serioulsy im going out my mind, nice bass, best drum work ive done nice chords little arps and things but I am totally lost for a lead.

Ever been in that sitaution?

What do you guys do?

If you want to hear tune i can put a link up but just some ideas would be cool to get juices goin i been on for days!

I've been in that situation. I find its best not to make a lead, just work with the stuff you got, use some chords/arps filter them in/out, soem effects here and there. Eventually it'll come to you mate.

specific sound or actual pattern ?

Honestly man, you just have to keep plugging away at it. I encounter this situation frequently, and sometimes you just have to keep trying until you find something that works. Sometimes I find it helps to shelve the track for a period of time and then return to it so you can gain a fresh perspective.

I think you simply just ran out of ideas, I'd close the track for a day or 2 and go listen to some new music. You might hear something you like and get an idea.

Tag it as "progressive" and send it to every label you know.

Loop a phrase and improvise with synths until you get something that sounds usable, that's how I do it.

The groove is too underestimated these days.

LOL

man, this happens to me all the time: i always have emphasis on the bass and percussion, lead always gets organised last, so i often run out of ideas...

if you have a chord progression down, just work on variations of it until something sounds good..

what do i do if i have the lead but not everything else?

Posted by Nightshift on Jan-25-2010 08:31:

create a pad, throw in some SFX take it down to about 100bpm and call it ambient

Posted by DJ Robby Rox on Jan-25-2010 08:56:

Thats still gonna sound more like a pad then a lead no?

Just get on your keyboard and start bashing away, experiment and see what fits with the tune. Stick at it until you find something you like.

Id rather be in that position of having a catchy hook/lead and then build the track around that

Hey thanks fellas i have attempted to write one which you will hear but it ony serves to show just how out of ideas i am

Im happy with the production of the song i like the hats and the shaker and the bass etc but i just think i missed the boat with enery of the track, and melodic content but i cant fix it! ahhh lol

Oh its a little dated too, but i likes the old melodic sound
