Following the news that the city had identified five nightlife venues in their latest smoking crackdown, the Department of Health sat down with reps from M2 and the Imperial yesterday, and seem to have their hearts set on shutting down M2 over their flagrant violation of the smoking ban. According the Daily News, the evidence against M2 is rather extensive, and "includes testimony and photographs of bouncers chatting with cigar smokers, cigarettes for sale in bathrooms and waitresses serving drinks to people with lit cigarettes in hand." M2's attorney Robert Bookman claimed the club was powerless to stop the smoking, pleading "we're asking the city for guidance."

While there will be no deal for M2, the Imperial may have bought itself one final chance by agreeing to pay a steep fine and actually crack down on smoking inside the venue. Lit, the Box and Southside were all granted a delay so that they could have additional time to prepare their defense, and will return next month. Meanwhile, Blackbook and Gawker's man-about-town Foster Kamer gives everyone a few reasons to embrace the smoking ban, saying "there aren�t �mommy laws� in New Jersey, and I constantly think about going there just to smoke inside and get cheaper cigs. And anything that makes me want to go to Jersey has to be really, really bad. And that makes me want to quit smoking!" Way to stay positive!

well, next friday is my 21st birthday and SHM. as long as it happens after this, then oh well =D

the city has nothing better to do then shut down a club, because people were smokeing ciggs? give me a break people are smokeing far worse things sometimes

i dont smoke and i havent been to m2 yet so i dont know about their smokeing section
but pacha has been talking about building a rooftop since the place opened up and i still dont see nothing about it, all they got now is that fire escape that can only hold so many people, even if i just wanna go outside to use the phone or catch a breath of fresh air you gotta wait cause its so packed shit sucks

IMO... Cielo has the best solution as far as smoking is concerned. The little patio area is perfect.

YEah sucks cuz I was still debating seeing SHM...

I guess that makes the February 5th decision easy, Marco V it is, it's free and I heard M2 last friday was an ultimate clusterfuck, im not paying for that if i can go free to Pacha.

should've been a no brainer a few weeks ago when tickets were $25; not now when they are $50

I doubt they end up shutting it down. But this better not interfere with the SHM party next Friday. I'm having my bday there as well.

These laws are impossible to abide by. The city is using M2 as an example so they can get paid out from the rest of the clubs involved �. There was a great write up in today�s Daily news about this. ..

That would really blow I haven't been yet, but now that the tables are pushed to the side for friday nights, I was really looking forward to checking out the space again.

i'm going to have to go with the other way around, judging by his new stuff which is simply amazing.

unfortunate to hear about m2. whenever i see people smoking at pacha, i always ask them if they realize how many undercover cops are inside and that usually does the trick.
