to turn off all the filters after you have finished your set, or is the onus on the next DJ to know the kit?

I made a right tit out of myself on Saturday following this chap who decided to put the filter right up to fade his last track out. I had never used the A&H mixer before and didn't realise that there were 2 filters - one for either channel, as all the mixers I have used before just have one filter which you assign to a channel.

Anyway, worse still (and I do think this is a design fault), you can't hear that the filter is on on the PFL, so I mixed for about 90 seconds without any sound coming out, despite being able to hear it perfectly in my headphones, Then when I realised the track was starting to die off and dropping drastically in volume, I panicked, realised the filter was on and just turned it straight off, leaving the next tune to blear out un-tactfully.

Ah well - live and learn eh? I certainly wouldn't do that to a DJ that followed me though.

surelly there should have been some communication b/w u dj's?

did u get a look at the crowd when the music blared out?
were they all:
"pfft, this guys is sooooooo amateur. Lets go for a smoke"

Yea well he could have done with saying 'filter's on mate'.
I was really embarrassed, but luckily the crowd weren't too fickle on this occasion. I didn't notice anyone leave anyway!

If I've never used a mixer before that I'm about to play on I wont hesitate to ask for a few pointers before playing on it.

I was playing on a 92 the other weekend and the guy after me usually doesn't play on one so i gave him a crash course and what was what with the light from my mobile phone. Just important things like booth volume/master volume (as it wasn't at peak yet) headphone volume ( cue mix/master), and the filters.

In fairness the 92 once you break it down is a relatively simple mixer.

I played on an 800 a while back for the first time and found it a lot more complex but after asking a few question i knew how to use the basic functions and was laughing

If in doubt, ask.

It is a little annoying the way the PFL doesn't allow you to listen to the filter. I often just turn off the PFL ask i'm mixing it in to listen to how wet/dry the filter is on the mix..
