Josh Wink - When A Banana Was Just A Banana - Remixed & Peeled [Ovum]

Josh Wink's fourth artist album 'When A Banana Was Just A Banana' was one of the most talked about and played electronic albums of 2009.
Now, in 2010 - and with a little help from his friends - 'When A Banana Was Just A Banana' gets Remixed and Peeled by some of Wink's most esteemed producer friends who each personally chose the track they wanted to remix

"This album started coming together when some of Josh's peers inquired about remixing certain tracks that they liked. Josh then asked other producers whom he liked and respected to pick a track also. After a few months of collecting the remixes, 'When A Banana Was Just A Banana Remixed and Peeled' is ready for release. It was an honor to have so many talented producers interested in putting their spin on what were already great tracks - and very exciting as the mixes came in and we were blown away one time after another. The styles are very diverse, but all put together make a comprehensive album that shines like the original. From the deep tech of Martin Buttrich, Pascal Feos, and Chateau Flight, to the house grooves of Nic Fanciulli, DJ Sneak, D'Julz and Jimpster, to the full on floor fillers from Agoria, Slam, Radio Slave, and Benny Rodrigues."

The album will be available as a single CD, Digitally with exclusive tracks by DJ Sneak, D'Julz, Martin Buttrich, and Pascal Feos, and as a limited edition vinyl collection of 6 separate twelve inches.

Anyone have a release date? The tracks I've heard from this have all been great, can't wait for this.

Out now on Beatport

I don't know how Jimpster did it, but his mix of Jus Right is BOMB. Ditto for Sneak. Goddamn Jus Right is a great track

Good, but nothing special. Really liked the Pascal Feos & D.Digler Remix of Hypnoslave.

Chose Buttrich part 5 and Chateau Flight, a bit disappointed with Agoria

I agree with Chimney it's not special...

I diggin' the Sneak and Jimpster mixes of Jus Right a lot.

i bought the Dj Sneak one. The rest are not horrible, but they didn't really stand out too much to me.

I didn't really like any of these...particularly since the original of Jus Right is still doing it.

Ovum would be better off if they stepped outside the box they've created for themselves. This release is fail, the original Banana tracks barely got their hips over the bar for acceptable yet forgetable modern tech house banter, remixes are worse off in my opinion

Forgettable? Jus Right is one of the best tracks of the past year imo. Granted the rest was meh but he really hit it right with that song.

jimpster and mathias tanzmann did a good job.. i felt that tanzmann made a subpar wink tune into a nice little percussive track that i'd love to incorporate as a tool of some sort.

Jus Right is my favorite on the first part and I think Dolphin Smack is the other contender for best track on the album. I just feel like there's something missing in general with Ovum releases although I cannot put my finger on it.

Jus Right has a nice melody and bassline, I'll give it that

Massively dissapointed given the roster of remixers.

After listening to all the samples, I'd have to agree. I only like the Jimpster and Sneak remixes of Jus Right and Dolphin Smack part 5.

Posted by jupiterone on Feb-15-2010 10:50:

liking that jimpster remix

however, they really could have gotten a better roster

A few of these are really good. Jus Right mixes, Agoria mix of Minimum 23, Stay Out All Night RS mix, Mathias Tanzmann mix of Airplane Electronique, Benny Rodrigues Drama mix & Pascal F.E.O.S. & Diggler remix. There's a typo of Martin Buttrich on Beatport it's spelled Marting Buttrich haha. Fanciulli Hypnoslave remix was a big surprise though, fucking choon.

A much better release than I anticipated considering Ovum's output in recent months and the album (unmixed version) was one of my favorite LPs of last year. Not bad, not bad at all.
