[Review] Swedish House Mafia @ M2

left an hour or so before the end, but i'll start this anyway.

The good:
ze swedes came on at 1:00 on the dot and got right down to business. the music was bananas, with a nice mixture of old reliable hits and new tracks. musically, a great party with high-energy tracks. confetti, glitter, streamers, freezing air blasts and white-out levels of CO2 added to the party atmosphere. good stuff.

random spots:
~ Steve Angello - Monday (Instrumental)
~ The Temper Trap - Sweet Disposition (Axwell Remix)
~ Angello, Axwell, Ingrosso, Laidback Luke - World Behind (Dimitiri Vegas & Like Mike vs. SHM Dark Forest Edit)
~ Sebastian Ingrosso vs. MGMT - Kidsos (Original Mix)
~ Calvin Harris - Flashback w/ Spanish Fly - 2000 & One (SHM Bootleg) [thanks to mike bugout for the spot]
~ Daft Punk- One More Time (The House Moguls Bootleg)
~ Laidback Luke & Benny Benassi - Be Satisfaction (Swedish House Mafia Bootleg) w/ The White Stripes - Seven Nation Army
~ Laidback Luke - My G.O.D. (Guns On Demo) (Original Mix)
~ BlueMind - I Was Born in a System
~ TV Rock Ft. Rudy - In The Air (Axwell Remix)
~ AN21 & Max Vangeli - Gama (Original Mix)
~ De Bos - On The Run (Ralvero Get Down Remix)

The bad:
the club organization was amateur hour from beginning to end. one person inside manning the will-call tickets while the freezing crowd outside was let in one at a time. we had to grease the bouncers to get in after not moving for 15-20 minutes. disgraceful - go get a clue.

coat check: another disorganized clusterfuck, both coming and going. have you mooks running things never seen how a freakin' coat check line works? go check out a high school play.

the crowd: hot skanks, but way too many pushy guys (and ugly ones at at that). go clean yourselves up pendejos.
-
overall, the swedes delivered but i'm not going back to these m2 gigs any more. Area, you need to move the venue pronto and change some shit. this supposedly happened @ roger sanchez as well.

Thumbs up

TV Rock Ft. Rudy - In The Air (Axwell Remix)

Highlight for me was Sweet Disposition (Axwell & Dirty South Remix) towards the end of their set. But the line to get in and the coat check was a disaster. I dunno if it's Area's fault or M2's but they lost a lot of customers last night. And stopping at 4 was weak.

Lets not forget the Mandatory coat check. You must check your coat to go downstairs. I got some videos from inside the coat check. Might post them up later.

You hit it right one with the good. Lets not forget a full color laser where whoever was controlling it was doing a damned good job.

For those that need a little more Steve Angello in their lives, he will be playing at the Gavensort tonight because his gig in DC is cancelled.

Hotel Gansevoort

New York, NY 10014

Last night was great,
would love to go to Gansevoort for Angello's gig tonight.
edit*
so I called the Gansevoort about this, and they told me it's at their new lounge the Provocateur. I called them and they informed me its table service only, $2000+ a table.

Posted by chimera66 on Feb-07-2010 00:30:

^hahaha no way is a special hour or two hour set worth $2000.

they keep giving people different information, i called and they told me he wasn't playing. then they told someone else he was now he's playing and it's $2k a table. wish there was some uniform information...

Posted by diabloargentino on Feb-07-2010 00:54:

before anything, if i remember correctly, they played this at around 330 and it made my night..

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1K7fL5s_1ac

anyway. these guys rocked the house last night. some awesome mash-ups, although i wish they let some songs play out a bit more (seven nation army, blur - woohoo, bonkers). also, i didnt love the leave the world behind mix they played, or that they played it in the very beginning. should've been the encore if you ask me.

music was non-stop though. LOVED the lasers (hello PvD), loved the confetti. i guess they stole a page off pacha's book during my g.o.d. when they filled up the room with smoke.

like everyone said, they way the run that place is terrible. i almost had a heart attack at coat check it was so crowded. but i will say this..

the girls at the bar + the girls dancing = OH MY GOD. hiring them was probably the only thing management did right.

i cant wait to see everyones videos + ill post the videos my girlfriend took asap.

if someone can get us a decent track listing i'd love them. last night was actually my 21st birthday and i couldn't of picked a better party.

oh and a little shoutout to jmauro wherever you are for partying with us the whole night, and the 2 TA girls i met who i'm sorry i cant remember your names but i do remember one told me her TA name was about sexual chocolate (LOL) and i had a conversation with the other about how sexy ferry is

the lasers were sick, CO2 was awesome, i have to admit getting drinks was relatively easy. the only downer was coat check, the issue was that they had colored tickets and they had people assigned to different colors which is dumb. you can't expect people to wait in line essentially twice to get their coat and a friends coat then have no line management.

update.

watching the videos on our camera.

they tore the place a new asshole.

Unbelievable night, haven't seen an even like that in NYC in years.

I went on from 9 -1am and by 11pm the dancefloor was packed.

Dopeness

AMAZING party. Awesome to have a party that was so well-rounded (ie: ridiculously good music, amazing lasers, great decor, streamers and confetti and CO2 everywhere!) loved it. loved it. loved it. LoooveSHM!!!!

Tried to pull the double party when I found out some of the people I was coming to see @ Marco got caught in the snowstorm.....Unfortunately had to go to SHM first, because the person who offered his extra ticket had will-call, and so I had to go in WITH him. SHM didnt start til after 1am, and that combined with the (m*thaf*ckin) 2 HOUR coat check definitely interrupted that idea quickly. So, super sorry to anyone I was supposed to meet up with at Marco V, it just wasnt meant to be I always want to support Massive, and this time around was a complete FAIL on my part

Only bad part of the night was the hundreds of people in a stampede to the coat check. It was a complete clusterf*Ck of fights, mouthing off, pushing, suffocating, SHITLOADS of people overdosing or getting sick from too much alcohol, ZERO organization of a HOT MESS From the time I left the dance floor to the time I got home (15 minute cab ride) was 2 hours....

You had that place rocking before they went on. Great opening set. All my friends and I were really into it. Nothing but the best vibe you set off. People were already jumping around 12.

Great night. I read reviews of the previous events they had on Friday nights. I showed up early knowing the lines were going to be outrageous. I was on the dance floor in about 15 mins. Walked right in, coat check was 10 minutes. Drinks I always went into the hip-hop room and was served quick. I left right when Angello went on the mic saying thank you NYC and knew that was the end of the set. Went to coat check and got my stuff in 5 minutes. As I walked out there was a MOB of people trying to get their shit. Walked out to see no snow which was upsetting haha.

SHM couldn't have done any better. I have always loved these listening to these guys and especially Ingrosso. I attended Sensation White 2009 in Amsterdam and the time of my life when he was on. But finally hearing all three together was an amazing time.

Really thinking about going to see Robbie Rivera there soon.

P.S. Just joined but I've been lurking for about 2 years haha.

I think I am going through SHM withdrawal. Friday night was epic and I really don't know how Area can top this. Oh yeah, they can start by running the will call line better.

Well less than 2 months for WMC and some more SHM action!!

Posted by jurel on Feb-08-2010 12:13:

Friday night was just amazing. There were no dj politics about playing what's new or what's old.. they just laid it down proper and set off such an incredible vibe. It's going to be pretty hard to top that night.

The first hour or two of their set was really really great, but when Seb Ingrosso came on and laid down the dutch house, that's when everyone just went apeshit. LBL, Vandalism / Angger Dimas tracks galore, and it fit so well. After that, it was just some great "surefire" hits to keep that energy up with some serious effects work behind the tracks.

About M2, I already knew it was an administrative disaster since opening day. Not opening day for this party, for the club. I don't even deal with that shit anymore and just show up at 10:30. I walked in with no problems, and when I left, I just caught the closing set and just waited it out because I knew it was a zoo.
It'll always be that way there with big events.

Here are some vids I recorded.. very clear sound, which also means I picked up on conversations and yelling but o well
