| British fashion icon Alexander McQueen commits suicide days after death of his beloved mother. The industry was left reeling after the 40-year-old's suicide this morning, which comes just days after the death of his beloved mother, Joyce. It is also just three years since his close friend, style guru Isabella Blow - who plucked him from obscurity and helped him become a star - killed herself. McQueen, who was christened Lee but used his middle name as a designer, was found at his luxury flat in Mayfair, central London. It is believed he hanged himself. One of his lines, McQ, was due to be shown at New York Fashion Week this afternoon but the show has now been cancelled. ![]() |

who?
I will wear my mcqueen wear with pride. Alex designed suits and outfits for prince charles and the royal family. He was an incredible designer and I hope his lines still continue. I couldn't believe the news when a friend messaged me earlier today.
His mens wear was over the top and fit so well. One of very few cachet brands I enjoy. His fashion shows were incredible and brilliant. I wonder what the mood is in britain right now...

never heard of him...
and it boggles my mind that someone who had millions, who was apparently admired by many (based on facebook status updates alone) - could take his life - while people in haiti, who own nothing, trapped under hundreds of pounds of rubble for days, come out with a smile on their face... unreal.

i'm actually really upset about this. it's such a waste of enormous talent - the man was a genius and such a visionary. one of my favourite designers of all time. he made garments that were completely out there and weird, but then at the other end of the spectrum designed some of the most beautiful and exquisitely tailored pieces ever seen. so sad.
