Review: Ferry @ Nokia 02/12/10
well since im home first out of the last people to leave, here goes.
FERRY GAVE TA A SHOUTOUT WOOOOOOO
masssssssssiveeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee set. nokia sucks standing anywhere in the back, so for future reference everyone should come to the front. dahlback put me to sleep, so nothing more on that (he did play tivoli though).
ferry's set was bonkers and i'm really glad he turned up the master later on. for those that were around me when he dropped bart claessen - elf, you prob think im nuts for singing the melody the entire time, but that track is insane! dudududu duuuuuuu duuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu :P

Radio Crash
I just got home, and it was a very good night. Im going to have to disagree with you^^ about Dahlback's set I effen loved it, me and my crime mob where going crazy with him. Anyways Ferry imo started out weak but progressed and progressed and then the guy was amazing. I didnt stay till 4 though I dipped about half hour earlier. Overall i like nokia theatre, but i was kind a disappointed with their supposed extraordinary vision, I wanted lasers!!

just woke up to head to the mountain to snowboard, i lol @ all you just getting home now - hope you had fun and still fucked up from the night lol....crazy eyes
got home about 20 mins ago.. i got on the line to coat check around 11:30 and waited on the line about 20 minutes when the bouncers moved everyone to this other coat check which took another hour to check in. i was able to get on the main floor around 12:30ish (exactly 1 hour after i just got on the coat check).. i would never go back to this place with my coat..and if i do, i will make sure that i get there around 10ish...due to this, i missed first 4 songs of ferry' set. this is the tracklist i was able to do afterwords with the help of clownzor.. tracklist might look like ferry whored out his productions, but it was just amazing regardless.. no cheesy music what so ever. AMAZING NIGHT. it was def one of those nights to catch a big dj where he didnt play any cheese(which is rare.) SICK NIGHT. oh and ferry gave a

Amazing time! The venue was killer too, minus the four dollar mini waters and absurdly small $11 redbull vodkas. Ferry played an awesome show,I lost it when he played understatement!!! soooooo much bass. And the tranceaddict.com shout outs. Glad this is my number one resource for all things trance
what time did it end?
saw some pics online, looked SIIICK
worst night ever. got kicked out before dahlback ended his set, rest of the night was downhill from there. lol.
Burak I feel your pain about the coat check shit. My night started out all f'd up. Didn't get into Nokia theatre until after 1230. I was on the one coat check line myself for 10-15 when they moved us to the other and I was on that for probably close to 45 minutes. I was able to watch Ferry on the big screen for 20 minutes or so and heard another 10-15 minutes. I too will never wear a jacket there or just get there really early.
I heard mostly good things about Dahlback, but like anything else, its a matter of opinion. Seeing as I didn't hear any of his stuff, I can't comment.
It was my first time seeing Ferry and the man brought the house down. I thought the venue was great. I pre-gamed so I didn't care about the drinnks, I was there for the music. I was pretty much right up in front all night (Mr. Fresh I was probably pretty close to you because I heard a couple people talking smack about Ferry, so annoying).
I just wish it was 21+ only...

Ferry was great. Sound and layout of the theater were pretty nice. Crowded, but I didn't feel like people were bumping into you every second like at some shows.
Coat check was a horror show. I waited for about 40 minutes, went through the line switch thing like Armitage350, and finally gave up and left the line when Ferry started. Danced with my girl's and my coat for an hour and then circled back when there was finally no line. FWIW, the bartenders also sucked and were the slowest bartenders I've ever seen at a bar/theater. In general, the staff, while not rude like Pacha, seemed completely uninterested in actually doing their jobs.
I'm surprised no one has mentioned Ferry's shout out to "Tee A's" around 3-3:30. Maybe I was just hallucinating
, but I thought that was pretty damn cool.

wow.
>Dahlback was pretty fucking awesome. When he dropped Tivoli, i almost lost my bird
> fucking losers chanting tiesto got a piece of my mind.
> the lights were really blinding, yet amazing.
> sound could've been turned up a bit more. lol
here's a quick vid of Ferry opening. i'm uploading the TA shoutout video right now. hopefully i'll have it locked in within the hour. Enjoy.

The video on my phone sucks, but I somehow managed to catch Ferry giving one of his shout-outs to TA and the crowd went NUTS...

haha last night was bonkers, im still drunk haha
Nokia theatre is massssive, i loved the venue only complain was the coat check line and they could haved turned the volume up a lil more. rest i had a blast. will upload the vids when i sober up more.
Dahlback was a huuuuuge disappointment, repetitive uninspired same-ol' electrohouse, with the breakdowns with added reverb only to add up to nothing but the same beat that was going for 4 minutes before the break... I'm a fan of a lot of his productions but was not really feeling the set at all... Most of the NYTA local opening guys could have blown him away, but I think we're just naturally drawn to hype up a European guy's set. A Zack Roth, Brad Miller, or Mike Saint-Jules set woulda been so much more appropo, and enjoyable, in my opinion... Like I said, I'm somewhat a fan of John's productions, so maybe he was just having an off-night, or maybe it was that he was "opening" DJ.. I would probably give him another shot if Made brought him to Cielo or Pacha!
As for Ferry, awesome as always, really enjoyed the set and there was one song around 2:50 that made me lose my marbles, I don't know the name of it, but it was INCREDIBLE... Note to Burak: I don't think he played "24 Hours", I woulda gone apeshit if he did, and pretty sure I didn't hear it, but heard a song with a similar bassline...
As for the venue, it was okay... Sound was absolutely INCREDIBLE during Dahlback's set, and then took a dive once Ferry got on, not sure if the levels were just completely different for house than for trance, but it took a while for them to right it... First half hour, I couldn't really hear anything but the kick and the bass, no song details whatsoever... Coatcheck was a nightmare; they've got like 5 bars and a food court in there, you'd think they'd solve that coat check problem...
Lighting was interesting, I woulda hoped for more lighting effects to reach toward the back, as it was a sorta deep space, but the L.E.D. setup was definitely pretty awesome, so I can't complain...
Made always has a high standard of event production, I wouldn't be surprised if they have all the "negatives" figured out by next time around, so I would definitely go back to Nokia for the right lineups...
Overall, a very good party, the small complaints are just that, small complaints, nothing major, except the idiots chanting Tiesto... It's as dumb as people in Rangers jerseys going to Devils games (not against the Rangers)... Thanks for your money, now let us heckle you and ruin your night, before you do that us haha...

What a night!!!! I had an absolutely amazing time.
When I walked into the venue I couldn't believe it, the place is just perfect in every way. Amazing sound, visual screens all throughout the venue, movie theater seating in the back, places to get away and take a breather, excellent stage set up, etc...
I'm not sure if anyone noticed but the walls and the ceiling are lined with audio panels to give the venue the best possible sound. I was pretty blown away by that.
The only thing missing was lasers (not sure if lasers are even possible in there though) but the stage lighting made up for it (great stage light show).
Negatives... something needs to be done with the coat check for future events. The coat check was absolutely horrendous. However, improvements can always be made and I'm sure that the coat check situation will be fixed for future events.
Music wise I think it was absolutely perfect throughout the night. I started the night with ambient and built through deep progressive house, deep tech house and deep progressive tech. Dahlback brought it up some notches throughout his set covering everything from tech house to house to progressive house to trance, then Ferry came on and we all know how good that went.
Being a DJ, I'm a stickler for the music having a constant build in energy throughout the night. I'm all about the "Musical Journey" concept and this night was perfect in this sense. John Dahlback and Ferry Corsten played really great together. And there is something to be said for a DJ who can hold back a little knowing that there is another DJ after him. We all know Dahlback could have played harder than he did, but I personally feel he played his time slot very well and his respect for Ferry and for the night musically shows that of a true professional.
Moving on to all of you... I don't want to come off cheesy here but I have a place in my heart for each and every one of you. Because I know so many of you on a personal level it makes for such a great vibe whenever NYTA is in the house. I realize that some of you may have been to young at the time or maybe just weren't into the scene during the days of Twilo, but all the hype that surrounds that venue / era is warrented. Because of the bond and close relationships that all of us have here on NYTA, I can say as someone who did experience the Twilo era that we have something very special here.
And just to confirm this from another source, did anyone hear Ferry get onto the microphone and give a shout-out to Trance Addict?? That was awesome. His interactions with the microphone were impressive and entertaining.
This is quite possibly the longest review I have ever written on here, but the night / venue / music / event production was stellar imo. And it's always a big positive anytime NYC has a new venue. I hope that EDM events at Nokia become a regular thing. And hats off to Made Event for once again bringing us a new venue and as always an amazing event.
FYI ---> TRACK OF THE NIGHT IMO! F*CK YES!!!!
