Thumbs down Hey Olympic protesters.......F&*% off

I understand they're trying to bring attention to various issues, but these hippies are really starting to get on my nerves....

Taze em all

Posted by Ozmozis on Feb-13-2010 23:50:

and lots of tear gas so they can't see the trucks coming to run em over...

Posted by malek on Feb-13-2010 23:51:

Fuck em, these anarchist are looking for any excuses to break stuff and fight with cops... they believe this chaos will degenerate and the whole population will get behind them

They are a dime a dozen over here.

Posted by nacarter on Feb-14-2010 00:02:

Most of these guys are pretty ridiculous.

First of all, a huge chunk of them aren't even from Vancouver or BC - they're just pros who don't have a G8 summit to protest so they go to whatever party is happening.

Second, most of the complaints are questionable. Olympics on stolen native land? Look, it could be argued that the entire province is on stolen native land. Do we see any of these activists willing to pull poles and move to Toronto? Don't think so - hypocrits.

Better things to spend money on. I might buy this if they'd be placated by social spending. The reality is that as long as there is one poor person on this planet (regardless of the reason) then nobody is allowed to do anything that may look recreational. Where are these activists going to be if the Games make money for the government and it gets spent on social programs?

Corporate games - please. I don't mind people who smoke a little dope, but people who smoke an ounce at a time have no credibility. If there wasn't corporate spending, government cuts would have to be 10 times deeper in order to pay for the Games.

What it comes down to is the fact that these people are attention whores and nothing more. Even if we solved these problems, they'd find something to protest because their livelihood depends on it.

If you aren't interested in solving a problem - FUCK OFF!

lol. all i know is that they are fucking dumb because, I heard about them but have no idea what they are complaining about. All I know is that they like to break stuff and that I wish that tazer were involved now.

They want the money to go instead to the people who don't want to work than the olympics.

Pretty much want welfare cases to have more money and us not have olympics.

exactly...in the world of protests they have been an epic fail. Even all the interviews didn't provide me with any info except...we don't wan't the Olympics.

I'm sure they have some semi-valid reasons, but seriously...chill and go to whistler. What are they going to do? Stop the Olympics? A little late for that...like 4+ years.

Olympics have been stellar so far.

Funniest shot was the overhead from BC Hockey Place where is was green all around the outside and you could see people playing tennis and soccer. Winter Olympics....in spring.

They have every right to protest at the games but shouldn't be vandalizing mail boxes and breaking windows.

The thread title just a little broad. There's been lots of peaceful protests at the games and events leading up to them. These people aren't the only ones protesting.

Posted by mute79 on Feb-22-2010 14:27:

peaceful protests don't accomplish anything.. now there are laws in place that permit protests only within a contained area, lol!

it's actually quite worrisome, because protests have now been made so that they'll never bring about change.. people now can't mobilize into big social movements

Posted by nacarter on Feb-22-2010 22:59:

Mute, you need to get your facts straight. There are NO laws that state the protesters have to stay in designated protest areas. I'm here in Vancouver as part of the CF Security team, and the designated areas were negotiated between ORN officials and legal reps and the RCMP over a year ago. It's basically a gentlemen's agreement, and the police can't do anything if the protests leave the designated areas (which they have on a regular basis).

Posted by malek on Feb-22-2010 23:39:

Mute is our resident wannabe commie. Don't take his posts too seriously.

Posted by Spin Laden on Feb-23-2010 00:01:

lol, this thread's right up Malek's alley.

I know a lot of BC'ers aren't happy that the referendum was held for the games with only Vacouverites being allowed to vote. Some aren't happy with the displacement of the homeless, and of course the allocation of tax dollars as these events help the corporate elites but does not trickle down enough to the lower classes... and if it runs a deficit like Athens, Atlanta, or Montreal, well....

I think 2010 will turn a profit, however. Many of the venues were already in place, and with Vancouver being prodominately English, close to US, an attractive city, etc, these games should do well. I'm no economist, however
