Deep House Clubs/Lounges in Toronto?
Are there any lounges/intimate clubs in toronto that play deep house or even progressive house? I dont want the sardine experience government gives, nor the hardcore music. The only place DECENT that I can think of is Footwork and while the music is awesome, theres nowhere to sit and chillout and talk with people. Lets just say i wouldnt mind music along the lines of nick warren or ben watt.
Does anyone have any suggestions? Andy Poolhall is cool, but loud as hell (and the music is much different).
Thanks!
Stone Lounge.
Fabricated throws monthly parties there. It's small, it's intimate, great music, amazing and really friendly crowd, and an awesome bartender.
I've described the venue to others as 'Dancing in your best friend's basement'. It is the basement of 'revival' which is upstairs, which plays hip hop karaoke, so don't go there. It has a fireplace off to one side, low ceilings, hardwood floors, stone and brick walls, lots of booths with couches to sit and chat with nice ambient lighting. the sound on the dancefloor is pretty good I would say. It's also centralized, so when you decide to have a chat with your friends off the dancefloor you don't have to shout to be heard.
I wish it was more than a monthly thing, but I guess that helps keep it 'special'.
They had Neil Quigley there for boxing day, it was AMAZING. They also had Brad Copeland, Jon Tremblay and Sean Crawford back in November, also a great night.
Chris irGO is playing there this week. I think I'm gonna go check it out for a bit. His recent February Podcast really makes me want to get out and dance. Give it a listen if you use iTunes. I think it's also been posted in the Househead thread - just search for it.
Cheers.
Oh yeah - Pretty much any pat boogie party is guaranteed to be a good time. Cobra on Fridays have been really good!

Stone lounge for sure. I will probably be there on Fri if I don't do Cobra, all depends on what my buddy from the Uk decides to do (TOTA that moved there).
I think Foundation Room on the weekends by Church and Front still plays deep house. It's very loungy but the music can be a bit loud. But yeah I see a lot of older late 20'ish type people there there. It's a very good atmosphere, no cover, and looks amazing inside.
Andy Poolhall is great too. Funky decor. Seating. Pool Tables. Dancefloor. Andrew Allsgood throws some good Fascination parties there

Def. Stone Lounge.
Sometimes Li'ly Lounge (downstairs), also on College, has nights w/Deep House locals. I don't think they get any internationals though.
If you want somewhere to just chill and drink (there is no dancefloor), Insomnia @ Bathurst and Bloor usually has a DJ playing deep house in the back. And, it's an amazing restaurant/martini bar. Great for a date night :P Very sexy, chill vibe in there..... One of my fav. spots in the city by far.
deep house ftw
would love to see guys like shur i kan, sebastian davidson, the timewriter, milton jackson in a small loungey club in toronto

| Originally posted by Skipper Luciano is not deep house to me...and definitely not loungey. I am really liking stuff by Osunlade, Franck Roger, and essentially all of the Djoon podcasts. Now that is a club on my to-do list! There's nowhere with that sound regularly in Toronto although the boogie parties come close. (Osunlade playing @ Great Hall on April 1, for example) |
Hmmm!
I've taken a look at Foundation Rooms website and looking at the music played on saturdays, it seems to be 'house and dance' by matt chrysdale. Ive got a party coming up on saturday and dont know where to have it, but so far it looks like its going to be between:
Foundation Room
Stone Lounge
Andy Poolhall
Does anyone know what theyre gonna play this saturday? Pics? Video links? I've looked at some clips from youtube? Only thing I saw from stone lounge were videos of neil quigley, and from foundation room i only saw a clip of Nitin.
Any tips? I'm a little bent on the two locales, im mainly hoping both, or either will play some kind of minimal house without the sketchy footwork crowd.
Thanks guys!

Lovebirds needs to come to Toronto and do a Betalounge-esque set. That would be epic.
Francois Dubois, Jimpster, and Kevin Yost should come to Toronto as well.

milton channels on the other hand is far from deep house )), he is tech-house/techno/minimal
I think you guys should go at it about what kind of DJ Luciano is, citing examples of his productions, live sets (those recorded in Europe count double points) and cover art. The winner gets bragging rights on the board and final say on what genre every artist plays.
