Olympics anyone?

Has anyone been following the Olympics?

I usually miss the Winter games...just because I don't watch a lot of TV. But I've been watching all the hockey games and caught some of the skeleton rounds last night.

The people that do skeleton and luge are absolutely insane. But I can only imagine what the adrenalin rush is like.

Also saw the shoot out between Canada and Switzerland. I'm actually pretty impressed that Marty Brodeur still has it.

the hockey games have been nothing short of spectacular along with the speed skating and snowboarding.

Hells Yea, I leave work Early to watch Hockey. The Canada game last night was insane!...USA Vs. Canada on Sunday.
I must say, the snowboard girls are for the most part very hot looking! Love the Winter Games

The hockey games to me have been a little bit of a letdown for a couple reasons:

1) No commercial breaks or long stoppages, so the games are over in about an hour and 45 minutes.

2) Lopsided blowouts

3) Ugly jerseys with hard to read player names.

I've been watching at the gym almost everyday and can't say I have been following it though. But watching curling few days ago was interesting

I for one love the hockey games because there are no commercials. Its an actual game and not one for sponsors and ads.

I think the games will get better. Switzerland Canada was interesting but Bullshit how they picked Crosby to go again. The rules allow that there and i think its unfair the coach went with that. Take the loss in the preliminaries and be fair to the older players rather than go with crosby again.

I'm a winter Olympics fanatic, ever since I was a kid... I've probably seen every event there is to see, even curling, ice dancing, EVERYTHING haha.. I haven't seen ALL the hockey games but definitely meant to catch the interesting ones...

Team Canada and Russia are in trouble... The immense amount of pressure put onto them by the media, and they're cracking already... USA/Canada is going to be VERY interesting, one for the books... The Miller/Brodeur matchup is going to be immense, that'll decide the game pretty much.

NBC's coverage is, as usual, awful

Speaking as an outsider I actually didn't think they did a bad job.

I have been enjoying the Olympics a lot this year.

There is a lot of pressure on the Canadian hockey team to win gold. I think it would be more than awesome for them to do it on home soil.

They're TERRIBLE. To say they're shit is putting it kindly. A lot of the marquee events that happened during the day are only shown tape delayed on their prime time program. No real option to watch it live. If one lives on the west coast (same time zone as Vancouver), guess what? You're not seeing much of the events live!

I'm really hoping either ESPN or Fox wins the 2014 or the 2016 rights so we can finally have proper coverage for once.

A few links if you want to read more about the travesty known as NBC's coverage of the Olympic Games:

Huge game tonight between USA and Canada. Even though it's still the preliminary group round in ice hockey, this game will be a good measuring stick to see how team USA plays against the big boys in the Olympics. They haven't played a tough team yet.

I can not wait for this, gettin ready to set back and watch this now!

As Eco said, the Miller vs Marty match is gonna play out interesting.

it's super sunday for hockey

Is anyone else's feed crapping out on them sometimes? I've been getting periods of scrambled picture for no reason, and only on the channel the game is on.

I'm surprised this game is on MSLSD and not NBC...skiing is great but FFS it really shows you how little faith there is in hockey when your marquee game of the Olympics so far isn't on the NHL's flagship channel.

Great first period of play so far however. This game is literally a 'New Jersey Devils and friends' broadcast though.

For example...

Emrick: "Parise....back pass to Langenbrunner...over to Ralfalski with the one timer HE SCORRRREEEESSSS!!! Brodeur got fooled on the deflection!"

(even the uniforms look like a Rangers vs. Devils game...I'd say the only thing missing is Chico Resch blowing a load after every time Marty makes a save)

Posted by osterzone on Feb-22-2010 02:09:

Holy shit what a second period- it's very important that USA has that one goal lead going into the third.

Also- that was the first time I've ever seen back to back to back breakaways. Unreal.

Drury now has two goals now in the Olympics and this is the second good game in a row he's played. Hopefully somehow these Olympics can motivate his slobbering ass so when he comes back to finish up the rest of the NHL season with the Rangers he ends up with more than 20 points overall.

Been watching a lot so far...especially the Japanese Women's curling team.

Posted by yankeeBaby on Feb-22-2010 02:12:

here is something to think about...is the USA keeps playing like this, we will lose (despite the score).

If Canada keeps playing like this, they will never win the gold against whomever they meet up with....(also, despite the score).

despite all this (yes, I said "despite" three times), this is SUCH a fun game!!!

Mine is broadcasting only on MSNBC and im not getting drop outs so far.

On MSG i usually get dropouts for Rangers games which annoys me.

Anyway as far as the game goes:
That last Drury goal in the 2nd period was nice!

Both Brodeur and Miller and solid.

That 3 man team Canada collision was interesting too, hope they are all ok.

Back to the 3rd now...hoping for USA (im a big Callahan and Drury Fan) but either way this is an awesome game.

impressed by miller, what a game. going to put my canadian jersey back in the very back of the closet...

Posted by osterzone on Feb-22-2010 03:00:

Fuck yeah! That empty netter by Kesler was awesome and Miller was a fucking baller down the stretch.

The reason why USA won this game, and one of the reasons why I thought they would do well in the Olympics, is that they are one of the few teams that are stocked to the brim with lunchpail-type hockey players...guys who play passionate, tough, GUTS hockey, like Langenbrunner, Kane, Kesler, Backes, Callahan, and Drury (the past two games).

A guy like Langenbrunner may not have the natural scoring ability of a player like Crosby, but he owns him in one of the hardest to play (and grimiest) areas of the game- the crease.

It's great to have a star-filled roster like Canada, but you're not going to go very far unless you have guys that are willing to muck it up like on team USA. The hustle team USA showed in the last few minutes was awesome:

- Callahan blocking a huge shot
- Jack Johnson bitching Marleau in front of the net after a stoppage
- Kesler with a money goal...just ridiculous

Not gonna get that with a bunch of drifters on Canada who float around waiting for the puck...

We'll have to try harder !!

I'm stoaked on this!

langenbrunner has been a thorn in my side since his dallas stars days BUT i've always respected him. great player and good game by team usa.
