Question computer cases

I want to build my own computer, what are the best computer cases out there for a easy build?

I've always found Antec to be excellent quality. They're designed to be quiet too.

+1 yep was going to say the same thing, they even make some nice rack mount cases too, an example:

While building your PC, be sure to put in only quiet components if you're intending to use it as a DAW. http://www.endpcnoise.com

Lian Li

Get a case that has 120mm fan mounts only, such as the Antec SOLO. It's obviously better to have a big fan that moves slowly, than a small fan that spins fast; the bigger fan will move the same amount of air, but quieter. With a PSU that has a 120mm fan, a good quality 120mm case fan on the rear exhaust hole and a good CPU heatsink, you can usually run the CPU without a fan on it directly. The obvious benefit here is that you cool the CPU and remove hot air from the case, at the same time. Normally, the CPU fan cools the heatsink, but the hot air just stays in the case, unless you get an extra case fan (extra noise).

Both of my computers only have 2 fans in total; 1 in the PSU and 1 case fan. Neither of them have fans on the CPU or video card. I'm using fans with Sony bearings (Scythe S-Flex). They were expensive, but the most quiet available at the time. Have a look into them.

BTW: Among other things, the SOLO cases have rubber hard drive mounts, which also help to reduce noise. Lian Li are overrated, in my opinion.

how much does computer noise affect monitoring?
i can see a problem if it sounded like it was about to take off, but a quiet blowing?

Not at all in my experience.

It effects recording quite badly though.

Dont mean to hijack the thread too much but its kinda related, does it matter what way round a fan is on the back of the case?

I bought a really cheap case when i built my pc and it has a fan in the removable cover which I have no idea if its pushing or pulling air lol, however I had a chassi fan from my old pc which i also screwed into my new case and its spins away, but i think i can mount it either way so it either pushes air from outside in or pulls air from inside out, whats better?

think its supposed to pull air thru the case (from the front grille) and out the back - every fan has an arrow on the side edge indicating air flow direction.
on cases... ive got an Antec, zero problems with it
