A formal proposal for a ban � which requires the approval of two-thirds of its 175 member countries � is scheduled to be presented at a Cites meeting next month in Doha, Qatar. |

For a pretty advanced society Japan is a fucking strange place. Anime, guys who are afraid of sex, and indiscriminate fishing of endangered fish as well as our dolphinese brothers and sisters.

japan's stupidity is causing me problems. i want to go snowboarding there but my husband refuses until they stop those fisherman who hunt whales. if he hears about this, it will just add more fuel to the fire...

Japan takes don't tread on me to a whole other level. 
I love a lot of things Japanese but their insatiable appetite for seafood is a real shame. I mean look, I understand that in Japan, tuna is the equivalent of beef in the U.S., for example. But they really need to how restraint, find some culinary alternative for a little while. They don't HAVE to eat their maguro/toro, plenty of other fish to eat. At worst, jack up the price so much that only the very rich could afford it.

let em eat them all. who gives a shit? not me especially since ive never tried that fish before.
It's so hard to get people to care about what happens beneath the waters. Fish aren't fuzzy and cuddly, so suddenly they aren't worth saving. I am not going to pretend that I don't eat canned tuna or that my efforts in mere thought change a damn thing, but for fuck's sake, what happens in the ocean affects us all, and that is going to be a hard, irreversible lesson when it catches up to us.

I only commented because he does that type of thing all the time. From what I've heard about Japan from friends who have been there, including a friend who's Japanese (HOLY SHIT I'M WHITE AND HAVE A JAPANESE FRIEND) it is indeed a pretty fucked up place, in comparison to the west. I've also heard it's awesome, I would love to visit some day.
I'd love to go their someday, but I have a few Japanese friends and one friend who has been teaching Japanese High School for a few years now. It sounds horrible. Though also awesome. Such a fucked up place.
