There is a slight difference between claiming God to be a woman and Jesus to be a homosexual; namely, the Abrahamic faiths really only refer to God in the masculine out of convention whereas to many Christians and Muslims casting Jesus as a homosexual would also cast him as an unrepentant sinner. Perhaps more important though is that there is no theological basis for the statement therefore it seems the only purpose is to self-promote by making inflamatory an statement, which is pretty low-brow.

I guess because somewhere in a bible homosexuals are condemned, that makes it a bad thing. Then again, all holy texts are man-written, so interpretation plays a big part..

Indeed, interpretation is key and one can find something in the bible to contradict just about anything else, which is why I look for what is consistant. That said, many will hold to the Leviticus verse stating that homosexual intercourse is "an abomonation," Elton knows this; subsequently, he knew that his statement would upset people. Now, I'm all for upsetting people; however, with no actual basis for his assumption on Jesus' sexual orientation one must conclude that the statement was made with the singular intent of making headlines by upsetting a large number of people. It is the intent of his statement that I find offensive.
