Allen & Heath Xone S2 Mixer
I was at my local music store earlier today picking up supplies. I came across the Xone S2 and was messing around with it. Has anyone worked on this mixer before? Any thoughts? It's a lot cheaper than its bigger brother the 92, and cheaper than an 800. I found that it has much more connection capabilities too. So I'm curious. This model has the rotary faders too. Price was $970.00
Not sure if you know but the connections are on the bottom...so might be a pain to have it in it's own dedicated case or rack and you plan to take it out.

I've used the mixer. Great price but there are a couple things about it that would probably prevent me from buying it. Personally, i found the eq knobs to be WAY too close together. I could barely reach in to grab anything and accidentally turned other knobs with nearly every twist. And, I really hated the location of the headphone jack.
The cueing system wasn't ideal but they rarely are on a xone.
Just a poor layout. Great price though.
is this the fancy rackmount one?
Yes it's the fancy black faced one.
Terry, that's what I felt too. Everything seems too close together especially the eq section. Another thing I found was the lack of a mid eq cut/gain knob on the mic inputs. Why in the world would you cut that? Even the 800, and even the Denon 1700 lack this. Why?
$970 is a really nice price for that mixer. If you have a way to rack-mount it at home and can afford it. I personally would be all over it. I think it's sexy as fuck. The only real complaint I have against it, is the placement of the headphone jack.
this thread needs pics

Looks nice but as someone above said, those knobs look VERY close together.

| Originally posted by djkatmaus If I do get it, it would go in the coffin I take out to my gigs. Currently I have a 1500s in that coffin which I do like, just looking at other options. The placement of the headphone jack is in a bad place, and the lack of the mid eq boost/cut on the microphone inputs are its downfalls. Plus the knobs being so close. I think this model is marketed more to the mobile Dj. I have photos of my gear in the bedroom dj's thread if you want to take a look. Get an idea of what I'm replacing. Right now it's a toss up between the Xone S2, Xone 92, and 800. |
