Report: World of Darkness MMO Launching in 2010
by Nick Breckon Jan 19, 2009 6:08pm CST tags: CCP, Rumor
The MMO based on White Wolf's World of Darkness vampire/werewolf franchise is scheduled to launch in 2010, according to CCP financial documents noticed by VideoGaming247.

"CCP is currently working on new projects, the largest of which is World of Darkness, a MMOG that is scheduled to launch 2010," reads the document.

EVE Online developer CCP began production on the vampire MMO after acquiring White Wolf in late 2006.

CCP marketing director Magnus Bergsson had previously guessed at a 2011 release date for the title.

Why haven't I heard about this until now???

Let me crush your hopes of this ever being worthy of playing in one line of text.

You play a vampire in this game. What kind of audience will that attract? Thats right...Twilight fangirls...tens, perhaps hundreds of thousands of Twilight fangirls.

Still want to play it?

If it has open pvp, sure!

i swear, every time i see a title that gets my attention it turns out to be an MMO

pkc, have you tried the new Stalker game? I'm fucking hooked.

loving the tone of the whole thing and have enjoyed some really spooky moments. i just wish the shooting gameplay felt a little more polished. it feels a little clunky from time to time.

still the best games to come out of eastern europe for sure.

Such a seemingly innocent question to ask PKC.

I may just have to learn the art of self-fellatio.

At the Grand Masquerade, a convention for World of Darkness fans, CCP showed the first trailer for the MMO based off that franchise. They revealed a few details about the game, too.

Ardwulf's Lair reports that the game will be Vampire-only. The substance of the trailer seems to support that. That may be a disappointment to some; the World of Darkness universe encompasses several pen-and-paper games besides Vampire: The Masquerade, such as Werewolf: The Forsaken and Mage: The Awakening. Still, as Ardwulf's Lair notes, it's possible that they could expand the scope of the game after launch.

Like CCP's other big MMO, EVE Online, the WoD MMO will focus on "player politics and social interaction." The vampires of V:TM organize themselves into clans. Perhaps players will be given some control over these organizations?

The game is still pretty far off. CCP said at the event that it would arrive during 2012 at the earliest.

Trailer looks awesome, though no gameplay yet. :[

Pretty sure I am fanboy status at this point, but oh well.

What does open Pvp mean?

Posted by Halcyon+On+On on Sep-26-2010 20:18:

It means I get to gank the Twilight fags when they're least expecting it.

As long as the game doesn't turn fairy like Ultima Online, might have potential. Why not just play Darkfall if you wanna do PvP that takes skill?

It's made by CCP so it definitely has some potential. Known about this for a while since I used to play Eve quite regularly.
One thing they are the best at is creating a sandbox and letting people change the entire world. Something that even giants like WoW have been unable to replicate.

I'm just afraid that it will have too much grind as most MMOs do, even the ones that say they will have minimal grind.

That looks interesting. I may trial that soon.
