Would buying Final Scratch be such a terrible idea?

Seeing as you can pick it up on ebay for less than 100, do you think it would be worth a punt?

Is it really shit? Is it worth holding out for Traktor or Serato?

Obviously it's got much more limited functionality than the newer software, but for just playing tracks it's just a bit less accurate. You'll see the pitch wobbling a bit, but it's perfectly usable to try it out. Sort of like the belt-drive version of DVS

If you spent 100 quid on it now, you'd probably get most of that back if you sold it on in a year or two to upgrade to Serato/Traktor Scratch, so I'd go for it if you've got a ton going spare.

Yes. Outdated and not supported anymore.

There are numerous other options out there these days.

I used it for years, and apart from the upgrades with the newer DVS systems/versions, it was great for parties and in-home sessions. You'll definitely have fun with it for the little bit of money you spend, and YES, you can apply that to upgrades down the line if you want a newer system (at least thru Stanton anyways). I'd say go for it. Only reason I stopped using it is my Macbook OS doesn't support, although my older IBook did before it went bye bye.

EDIT: Oh I forgot, I had had FS 2.0, not 1.0. What version were you looking at?

i have both final scratch 2.0 and Traktor.i acctually was 100% satisfied with it and never had any issues(ran it under XP). but they really didnt keep up their end on support.... and traktor pretty much told them to fuck off, we can do this on our own. if u dont plan on updating your OS from xp then go ahead and buy it. oh and they do have the final scratch open.. which supports any software (sereto,traktor..etc)

Agree with everything said here, worth a punt if you have the readies. I had FS 1.5 with an original scratch amp (in fact i still have it, in fact id be willing to sell it to you lol) that I used for years without any trouble. The only reason really that I upgraded to Traktor was that I wanted to be able to use CDs as well as vinyl.
