WANTED for Murder "Suspect named in Pacific Mall slaying"

Suspect named in Pacific Mall slaying

Henry Stancu

A Toronto man has been named on a first-degree murder warrant in connection with the shooting death of a Pacific Mall cellphone shop employee last year.

Chun Kit (Daniel) Cheong, 26, died from a single gunshot wound to the head at XSITE Cell Phones at the mall in Markham about 15 minutes before the store was to close Feb. 20, 2009.

It was the region's first homicide of the year.

Homicide detectives were granted a first-degree murder warrant naming Bryan Valentine Gardner, 21, who goes by the street name "Weezy."

Investigators have interviewed Gardner's friends and family in Toronto, but have been unable to locate him.

Security video showed a hooded suspect leaving the shop where Cheong worked, returning minutes later when the shooting occurred.

Pacific Mall, at Kennedy Rd. and Steeles Ave. E., is the largest indoor Asian mall in North America with more than 400 shops.

It is known as one of the largest centres of illegal DVD sales on the continent. Police have seized thousands of bootlegged merchandise in raids over the last several years.

Anyone with information on Gardner's whereabouts is asked to call the York Regional Police homicide unit at 1-866-876-5423, Ext. 7865, or anonymously through CrimeStoppers at 1-800-TIPS.

you're white so you wouldn't understand.
most, if not all, of the bootlegging in hong kong has ties to the underworld so i wouldn't be surprised if it was the same way here.

So because the dude sells bootleg DVDs for the Triad, he deserves to be shot? Where do you make THAT jump in logic?

WTF does that have to do with anything?

I'm a Muslim Turk. Last I checked, the white folk don't want to claim us.

Your logic is flawed. No one is reading that article is going to think the dude deserved to get shot.

you would be surprised how many people would see it that way. you work for shady people who are involved with crime then they got what was coming to them.

The media wanted the non asians to assume the entire mall is ran by triads.

The truth is, most shops are ran by triads ... but not all. I have a very strong feeling this murder was had connections to a group of triads too.

That entire cellphone section is owned by one or two owners and X Site was the only store that wasn't part of their monopoly. Daniel's store was doing outstanding, they had most bussiness, lowest prices and best customer service. He treated you with so much respect and kindness, even out classed the Apple Store in that field.

After his death, I realize he was friends that I knew too and Emery bought a Samsung D900 from him many years ago when he worked @ a Fido Store (no corp)

RIP Daniel, you were the best shop owner in that mall.

Youre right, if its many people at all, I WOULD be surprised.

But we can both agree that the mentioning about what goes on at the mall was definitely not needed. Its not much different than when people get shot outside nightclubs without mention that it was hip-hop night, or when someone is shot in the club district when it was actually 3 blocks away outside their appartment building. In all cases, its just examples of poor journalism meant to put an intentional spin on the story.

That's the stupidest thing I ever heard. That's like saying all Italians are part of the mafia and you should never work for them cause you're bound to get into trouble. You're just generalizing all Asians now.

I am white, and I have shopped for years at Pacific Mall without any issues or problems. Not once did I ever feel I was not wanted there. Hell i beat Asians playing Street fighter 3 there and they shake my hand and say 'nice game'.

I am sorry for your loss dude. I am sure he was a good guy. Until the day I feel unwanted at Pacific Mall, I will continue shopping there. Stupid fucking media. You just had to get your stupid 2 cents in there.
