Yup. It's official now.

why do some of the comments claim its because of Denon DNS-3700?
Whats so special about that one?

rip

All it says is that the CDJ-1000 MK3 is to be discontinued. Not the CDJ-1000 series itself.

Posted by Zak McKracken on Mar-03-2010 21:22:

well mk2 and 1 have been for a while

Posted by JD8180 on Mar-03-2010 22:34:

i don't see why they would discontinue the mk3 only, makes no sense?

Posted by Brandt Slater on Mar-03-2010 22:45:

I wonder how much of this is rumor. Remember Technics sent out a newsletter stating they were going to discontinue their 1200 line. There was so much outrage against it, that they continue to make it.

If it's true, maybe there's an mk-4 in the works or they're doing like Denon did and only promote the new stuff. When Denon released the 3700 the 3500 went bye bye.

Who knows, I'd say just say flood Pioneers mail box with rage and maybe they'll continue the line.

Pioneers Martin Dockree said:

It is with mixed feelings that today we announce to the channel the discontinuation of the CDJ 1000MK3.thanks to the hard work of our then newly appointed direct retailers, installers and established distribution, as well as the DJs who instantly recognised it as the first real practical DJ CD player, it very quickly became an industry standard fixture in the DJ booth.

if i remember correctly, there wasnt anything confirmed or denied by panasonic or whoever makes technics.

time to move on and pay more for pioneer gear

Exact same type of newsletter sent by Panasonic, and yes there was confirmation. Google it.

It only says MK-3, nothing about the 1000 line. Which means there could likely be an MK-4 in the works.

Posted by i got big pants on Mar-04-2010 00:36:

if that statement is official, sounds like the 1k line is done.

he talks about the mk3, but then goes on to talk about it being the 1st real practical dj cd player. call me crazy but i think the mk1 could be considered the 1st.

wasnt the mk2 a standard fixture in dj booths prior to the mk3? and the mk1 prior to the mk2?

hm............

This could be a really good thing for the scene.

Yes, bedroom DJs are going to find it harder to afford them. Yes, smaller clubs will probably have clapped out old CDJs for years to come because they can't afford to replace them (although tbh those clubs probably wouldn't bother replacing them at the CDJ1000 price)

But it could encourage more and more clubs to have 2000s installed as standard... which would mean that clubs have a very good standard interface which laptop DJs, CD DJs and DVS DJs (well, DVS using CDJs) can all use.

Since it came out, I've been of the opinion that the 2000 is the best MIDI controller for DJing (of course some will beg to differ) - the only problem is you realistically need 2+ of them and you really don't want to have to pay for them and then lug them around to gigs! So I'd be over the moon if I knew every club would have 2 or 3 of them in as standard, so I just turn up with my laptop, plug straight in and go.

Or even just turn up with a USB stick...

Some of you are really clueless. Plain and simple this is a marketing move and a move to make more money. If some idiot was really going to pay 400 per pair less for 1000's over 2000s they should be checked into a psych ward. s soon as the 2000s came out it was goodbye to the 1000s. This is just making it official. Too much conflict in price points.

It was making no sense from a marketing perspective having the 1000s at 1500 and the 2000s at 1700.

Now they steer the way for the new industry standard. Everyone knows that the digital dj has grown in numbers over the last few years and now with Pioneer putting the 1000s to the past it forces the clubs which can afford them to move on with the future and make gigging for ditial djs MUCH easier.

This is GREAT for djs that play out. Within the next year most clubs will be stocked with 2000s.

RIP. The 1000s really changed the game.

During Presidents Day Weekend, Guitar Center was clearing out all their CDJ 1000 MK3 for $999!!!! I felt really tempted to buy me a pair.

Wow. That's definitely the cheapest I've ever seen them go for new.

The 1000 doesn't make sense in the current lineup.

Oh, and it appears the 1200 might actually be discontinued as well (for real this time). Dealers cannot order new ones.

Stop making the best turntable ever just dumb. Makes me want to fly over there and slap The CEO up side their head.

So will this mean the 1210 line is doomed?

Both the mk2 and m5g now? Weak.

As far as the 1000 is concerned, it was going to happen. No real biggie. They still perform fine for what I need but I'll slowly save up for some 2000s.

Maybe this means people will be able to snag them up for a bit cheaper.

They're not weak to a hip hop guy.
The 1200 line I can see but not the 5g or mk5. These need to stay. Maybe turntables are a thing of the past overseas, but not California. Everyone I know uses TT's with their DVS set up.

At any rate, being discontinued really doesn't mean much. The Mk3 is still gonna be there. Sometime down the road I may switch to a 2000.

I meant weak as in weak that they're actually starting to discontinue it.
