Black Prophecy goes free to play!

maybe my first MMO??

quote:

Reakktor Media GmbH has announced that it will team up with the Hamburg-based publisher gamigo AG on its upcoming space-based MMO, Black Prophecy.

The companies have also decided to make Black Prophecy free-to-play, which is something that fans have been wondering about since the game was announced last year. Despite the business model, however, we're assured that the quality of the game will match those with monthly subscription fees.

Reakktors Black Prophecy will breathe life back into a genre previously forgotten said gamigo's Patrick Streppel, The game features graphics of the highest quality, a rich and meaningful story, and strong community features. Since we've begun collaborating with Reakktor, we have expanded greatly upon the concept of the game and thus are able to offer one of the first top-of-the-line free-to-play MMOGs.

In the last few weeks, BP has had a crafting system added and seen the layout of the game open up. In-game dialogue will be recorded by professional voice actors, and an hour and a half of original orchestral soundtrack will be included.

"We are excited to have found such a strong partner in gamigo for the publishing and distribution of our space action MMOG Black Prophecy said Kirk Lenke, CEO of Reakktor Media GmbH. gamigo has the necessary skills and abilities to turn our product into a global MMOG blockbuster."

The game's closed beta test is due to start next month, stay tuned for more info as its released.

Dont know, while its tempting and i did after all play the shit out of X3, freelancer, privateer and other games like that, taking that one step further and venturing into MMO territory seems like stepping over the line where maintaining even a shadow of a social life is an impossibility.

Haha, id never get THAT into it. but its pretty much the only option for us space sim fans these days (other than jumpgate evolution which is subscription based) so I might give it a run and check it out. Id still much prefer an SP sequel to something like freespace, but nobody wants to make them

I knew it, you're jewish. Thats the reason you dont like MMO's.

Posted by pkcRAISTLIN on Mar-05-2010 03:43:

Haha, no. its because theyre shit. Having to pay monthly fees just adds to the shitness.

I gotta admit...that's quite a Jew statement, lol. There's plenty of great MMO's that are worth paying for

Not to someone who thinks MMOs are shit.

A new challanger has arrived (click me)

Posted by pkcRAISTLIN on Mar-10-2010 09:06:

yeah, i was reading about that earlier today. its hard to get me excited by any MMO but as long as the gameplay is centered in the cockpit it could be worth a look.

why cant someone just make an epic SP space sim with lots and of lasers?

Posted by Fledz on Mar-10-2010 09:33:

Oh it's going to be free? Sweet!

I was keeping an eye on it but was getting a little disappointed by some of the announcements. If it's free though, I'll definitely give it a go.
I'd still be playing Eve but it takes too much time so this could be good for a few hours here and there. Let's all join the same alliance and try it out at launch, yea?

on my to-do list. Currently working on a Wild Guns clone but perhaps after that.

well, 'free' as in no subscriptions, but i presume you have to buy the game.

what announcements disappointed you? tbh i know next to nothing about this game, just keeping it on the radar.

you can be team leader!

Could be completely free to buy as well, and financed by microtransactions within the game itself. That seems to be all the rage this days.

Though for a true successor to the greats who makes a game due to his love of a space sim genre you+ll just have to wait until i get on it...that is of course if you wont mind playing a game made by someone who things Stargate is awesome

haha! id be more worried by the fact that the game i have in my head requires a hundred or so developers, rather than just 1

hell, id even play a stargate space sim if it was good. im starving over here

Posted by Moongoose on Mar-11-2010 12:53:

Well in that case, lets hope that what im working on now makes me wealthy enough that i can afford to set up a proper game studio, and then we can work on what you have in your head

Wont be stargate though...i mean i love it, but only one proper fighter on any side of the conflict (X-302)...wtf is up with that, you cant make a space combat sim out of that!

I always loved the design of WC ships, especially those from WC3 and 4. The arrow was so compact it was more like a well fitting glove than a fighter, the thunderbolt VII was terrorizing in its shark paint jhob and the excalibur was just awesome!

wow, they bring back the memories!

Just that a lot of stuff that was promised in the beginning wasn't going to pan out.
Same with JGE. Can't build own stations, can't really control environments fully etc.

When you come from a game like Eve where you can literally control 100% of a part of space, being restricted to NPC stations and shit like that is just not good enough.

Posted by pkcRAISTLIN on Mar-14-2010 02:10:

i spose if you're coming from an MMO background that could be an issue. me, all im really concerned about are flight physics and combat with squillions of ships.

Posted by Fledz on Mar-14-2010 02:30:

Look if I can jump in, have a solid hour or two of fights then I'll be happy so I'll definitely check it out. Also helps we're same timezone so we try it out together.

Wing commander 3 ships looked crap.

Way worse than wing commander 1 or two designs.
