Review: Paul Oakenfold @ Guvernment, March 6, 2010
Well I'm surprised nobody has posted a review on this bad boy yet but all I can say is wow.
The decor of the Guve was definatly a nice change and the complimentry drinks are always a plus. Oakenfold was definatly on his game last night. For all the nay-sayers, you missed out, and you missed out big. The only drawback about last night is that his set was very short, 1:05 to just before 3 am. But with all that being said he was POUNDING the guv last night. It was rammed to the tits but really for once I didnt mind too much.
It was great seeing a whole whack of TA's last night. Obviouly Kotsy and Tara, Chilled with them before the show. Heather, Jill, Shawna, Matt, Bobby, RJ, Taylor, Matius,StereoPrincess, and Jesse.
Some memorable tunes BT - Flaming June, Second Sun, and a few others that I had no clue what they were. Some ID's from last night would be much appriciated.
Now lets hope that last night crazy turnout will promt in INK and Oakenfolds managers to get Paul's ass back here sooner than another 3.5 years.
Good times!!!!
how was his mixing?
His mixing wasn't that bad at all, His first hour thought TERRIBLE!! 2nd hour was actually really really good, played some hardstyle/hard trance.. i was actually happy with his 2nd hour & i'm not a fan of this guy at all.
Ovi had some dirt in the Gallery & Manzone & Strong just Destroyed the main room with Progressive & Progressive Trance, then switch it up to Tech house back to Progressive Amazing
his mixing was great. no trainwrecks. and I think right now i need to lol.
I started a review thread at 2:10, kotsy starts one at 2:14. now we have to review threads...
I got there around 2:45 and walked into banging sound! Very techy!!! Navid would have loved it!
Anyone know the trackt at 2:45 am lol

Southern Sun was absolutely played.
Review: Great times all around for me, as always due in large part to those I was with. Cheers y'all!

Indeed! But that was M&S who trotted that one out. But I thoroughly enjoyed it as always.

Poky sounded like Marco V..LOL

Out of the Blue (Laidback Luke Mix) was played last night, which coincides with my theory/law that all good trance infused parties will inevitably contain at least one Ferry Corsten track in one form/mix or another.
Last night was no exception.

Li Kwan - Point Zero (Remix)
Paul Oakenfold - Southern Sun (Sasha Church & Stevan Holmes remix)
Planet Perfecto - Bullet From A Gun (Rob Corbo Remix)
Perfecto Allstarz vs Energy 52. - Cafe Del Perfecto
BT - Flaming June
Darkness - O Fortuna
Red Hot Chili Peppers - Otherside (Paul Oakenfold Remix)
---------
Considering Paul was playing CDs all night - the mixing was spot on (some transitions were quick, but the mixes were fine).
I had a TON of fun last night - the party was festive, Paul played a great energetic set. Fantastic night out!

Could not miss last night... Just got there in time for list and let some people in! What a crazy line up for koolhaus, must of been a reggae superstar! I haven't seen guv that packed since deadmau5 back in dec.. at least it wasn't mosh pit style ..thank god or i would of been crushed. Really hate Smirnoff.. i just wanted my Rev and the bartender was like"BUDDY, u want a smirnoff or what!" no tip for her
Glad to run into some familiar faces. Tunes were amazing and couldn't ID most of them but the style of trance was refreshing ! tune of the night was BT-Flaming june as most ppl said previous...
The thing about oakey is he excels at mixing in old tunes (even bits and pieces) into current mixes. Small riffs and samples go into parts of his songs that make it unique.
All in all this party will go down as my top 5 in 2010.

I LOVED Oakenfold's set. No complaints AT ALL. I was almost as excited going to see him last night (shockingly for the fist time), as I am anytime I'm seeing Sasha! So pretty fucking excited! lol Oakenfold is a legend, and he didn't disappoint me at all. Anyone know what his first track was??? I really enjoyed when he played "St. Francis Foley - Stoneface and Terminal" - a friend ID'd it for me. Wow, what a HUGE track! And I'm sorry, but I'll never get sick of the Braveheart theme song. LOL loved it.
I spent a lot of time in Gallery in the beginning on the night, and I think it was Chris Fresque on the decks? Anyway, whoever it was was great. A really fun, upbeat set. He played a remix of "Music Sounds Better With You", anyone know what one it was?
I stuck around for most of M&S's set, and was pleasantly shocked and surprised that they literally took over from where Oakenfold left off, and stuck with playing progressive, and progressive trance! I was totally expecting the usual mix of techno, tech house and house from them (which I also love), but it was a really nice and unexpected change. They are so versatile! Well done boys. They really understand how to play for the crowd in front of them.
only complaint.....it was TOO rammed in Guv. And ya, no Rev's! But, you could get them them in Gallery, so it all worked out. LMAO
