Are your MDR-V700DJ's Cracked at the Hinge?

I want to see a show of posts, who has cracked ones and who dont. Mine are and I'm pissed. So are everyone elses who i know. Please give me a general idea of who has a cracked or two cracked hinges. Thanks!

Yes mine's cracked at the hinge on the right side. Any ideas how to fix it?

which hinge are you talking about?
could you describe it, or even better point to it on a pic of the 700..?

My brother has a pair and he just got them on Thursday..
is it rough use or just fragile components???

Because if it is fragile components it should happen on the MDR-V500 and even the 7505/7506, etc.
-they have the same design

what are you ppl talking about????
I have my pair of V700's for a few months now... and no cracks anywhere........
you guys are probably just being too rough with them.....

DJ Darchinova, the 7506 isn't even remotely the same headphone design as the 7505. The 7506 doesn't swivel anywhere near as much as the 7505, V500DJ or V700DJ (in fact, it doesn't swivel far enough for flat storage). And the 7505, the V500DJ and the V700DJ all have the plastic covers on the swivel joints that are very brittle - they are prone to cracking after several months of typical use.

BTW, I didn't own the V700DJ long enough to see the effects of the cracking on the plastic covers on the swivel joints; I returned the V700DJ to the store where I had bought it from because its sound quality left a lot to be desired. (And yes, I did try it from a good amp.)

Well I've heard a lot of horror stories about the V700 model, that was one of the reasons I didn't get it. I can't speak from experience about the V700, but I can say that the 7506 (aka V6 - not V600) is a very tough product. I've had it for 6 months now, and its the exact same shape as it was when I got it.

i've had the v500's for about 6 months now... i haven't had any problems with them as of yet

my sonys cracked. Took them 2 weeks to get repairede and it cost me 80 buxs. they cant just replace the hinge they have to replace the entire headband

Posted by ShadySlim on Jul-15-2002 02:50:

80 buxs (Canadian) to replace the headband eh, Special_K?

Well, that's about one-third the original price of those 'phones!

I have heard quite a lot stories of the 700's breaking... and less/not many of the 500's due to its big brother having the larger number of sales...

Anyway, where is the exact location of the breakage on the hinges?

Is it the casing part which has an R or L (depends which side) engraved into the top of it?

Or is it the headphones band part which holds this casing?

Posted by j_spot on Jul-15-2002 09:12:

it seems all the vXXX-dj model crack alot....Ive gone thru 4 pairs myself before I moved to the 7506

where does it crack? well, fold it up, and see that hinge where it folds? kinda where the headband joint is w/ the earcup. Thats where mine cracked twice
the other two times was where the size adjusts.

Posted by Positiva on Jul-16-2002 03:48:

the instances i have seen were inbetween where the red r is and the blank side, the hing inbetween those two crack, as do the same on the left side. has anyone had successful warrenty coverage?

Posted by Special_K on Jul-16-2002 04:56:

they have shit warrenty, like 7 months or somthing.
