Quick Tip to Make Percussion Sound Louder(w/out compression and faders)

This is just something I came across while experimenting:

Zoom into the waveform of your percussion hit, take for example a closed hihat, and then look at the first few milliseconds. If the waveform ramps up before reaching it's highest peak, move the start point of the sample closer to the highest peak and you get a sharper attack on your percussion hit.

It's similar to adjusting the attack on a synthesizer down to 0 so that a sound rises to maximum volume immediately.

Be careful with DC Offset if you do that.

This CAN be a problem if you have any layered sound since you're essentially adjusting the phase relationship of those sounds. The sound of 2 kicks layered can be completely different if you adjust the sample start time, so do this with caution.

ableton drum rack has the sickest workflow available for altering your drum sample start and end, and amplitude envelope, even filter envelope for each individual drum sample.

This is one of the reasons im convinced ableton was designed with dance and prog music specifically targetted.
