Ableton Live 8 Automation Issue

I'm working on a DJ set in Ableton Live 8 and when I set up an automation for a volume knob on the mixer or bass on the EQ or whatever.. If I shift the audio file in the arrangment grid (to mix a song or whatever) it disables the automation I had enabled for that function. Does anyone know how to re-enable it? The only thing I have found that works is reloading the entire auto file into the audio track which is a pain in the ass because I lose all of my work.

when you do that a button up top will turn red, called "back to arrangement" click that and it should reset the automation value. Also automation is tied to the clip not the grid behind it, when you move the clip around the grid the automation should follow
