UFC 111 in Newark this Saturday...

Whos going / watching?

Not going, even though its in my back yard, but will of course be tuned in.

I am majorly rotting for Carwin this weekend. I like Mir, but if the winner of this fight is going to get Brock next, I think Carwin has a much better shot to win that one. I just don't see Mir being able to hang with Brock, and I NEED Bock to lose asap. I just can't stand the guy.

I actually have a 4 fight parlay with GSP, Carwin, Fitch and Palhares all winning. I'm the most nervous about the Carwin fight, just because no one knows much about his BJJ, plus Mir is a hell of a lot bigger now.

I've never been on Diaz's bandwagon, just because he can get out-wrestled and lose decisions. I don't know much about Markham, but I know he trains with Miletich, so he must have some wrestling skills.

I'm looking forward to the Mir/Carwin fight. I don't think I've ever seen Carwin fight and 11-0 with 11 knockouts is pretty impressive.

I know it's off topic but did anyone watch last night's free show?

He threw a nice elbow. I was more impressed with the Junior dos Santos over Gonzaga though. I like Gonzaga but he went down like a sack of potatoes.

Jon "Bones" Jones is the real deal, kid can throw down. I would love to see Cain Velasquez and Dos Santos fight next. I think Mir is gonna beat Carwin and i want him to fight brock again since they fucking hate eachother haha. I like hardy but GSP is just too good. Wish i could go and hope they come back to NJ soon.

UFC is so overrated. MMA lovers can't stop talking about how the sport is unique because of the different fighting styles, but when it all boils down to it, every fight is just straight up striking until they hit the mat, where they exchange submissions.

On paper, it sounds interesting for a guy to come into a fight with a particular style, but it rarely ever plays out that way.

Plus, the mat game in MMA is as exciting as watching paint dry.

I know wrestling is 100% fake, but I enjoy the acting and stage combat techniques they use during the matches. Wrestling is fighting made interesting.

MMA (UFC) is simply a way to determine who is the best all-around fighter on the planet. Boxing champions used to claim to be the best fighters on the planet, but considering their craft only involves punching, thats now false.

Sure, some fights are going to be boring, but thats the case with all sports. Most are not though, especially when you have two top guys squaring off against each other.

So only 1 out of every 100 fights end in KO on the feet? You obviously don't watch much MMA then. Happens quite regularly. What you don't understand, is that REAL fighting DO end up on the ground. Think back to any fights you have ever been in in your life. Did you and your opponent put up your dukes and box it out? lol

REAL fights do naturally end up on the ground. While on the feet, your object is to knock the other guy down...hence where ground fighting comes in.

You obviously don't watch much MMA, if you think that the entire time that fighters spend on the mat is just one long "submission."

Submission attempts are seconds long. Its all about jockeying for position, scoring with strikes on the ground, going for (and defending against) submissions, reversals, etc...

I've watched a couple dozen MMA fights and that is how they play out...it's fucking boring to watch.

I could make a similar statement and say that professional "wrestling" is entertainment for kids in middle school.

If you have time, do me a favor and watch this fight. I have included two versions. One of the unedited fight (its only 6:00 long), and one is more of a highlight of the fight with music and what not. Watch the first one, it includes some history.

Just a little backstory on this one. Sakuraba, the asian guy, used to be THE man in MMA back in the 90's and early 2000's. His nickname is "The Gracie Hunter" because he took so many of them down when they were considered the best in MMA.

Anyway, towards the end of his career, he started to slow down, and is currently a shell of himself. But he is still considered a legend in the MMA world, and especially in Japan. Anyway, this fight happened a few years ago...he went up against some tough European guy, and was getting beaten to shit, but the refs (being Japanese) refused to count him out and stop the fight...

BTW, niether of these guys are really relevant in today's MMA world. They aren't nearly on the level of the top guys. I just posted this video to show an aspect of MMA that is completely absent from shows like the WWE...heart. These guy are ACTUALLY fighting, actually getting hurt, getting knocked out, getting their bones broken. If you'd rather watch guys in bikini briefs pretend to get hurt and do boston crabs on each other, fair enough. But, you might want to give the sport another look. You definitely don't seem to know what its about.
