ok sometimes i get a msg that says me and the user im trying to download from are both firewalled. well i dont think im firewalled but i dont even know what it is. and today i went to download from someone on my hot list who ive gotten tons of music from and i got that msg. so how do i find out if i am firewalled? what is it? and can i fix that so im not? please help me. thanks a bunch!!!! -layla
If I'm not mistaken, a firewall is a way of protecting your computer against people who want to dl stuff from you like zonelab, but I'm sure some computer nurd will explain everything, hehehehe
I found out that if u take the person of your hotlist for the moment while trying to get the song then it'll solve the problem most of the time. But that is weird cause it only happens sometimes
Yeah that used to happen all the time to me. Now I can't get much from Napster. My first advice would be to jump off the already sinking ship...I know it's hard! And then I would say without having control over the network you are unlikely to remove the firewall so just keep trying or get it somewhere else. This is my not TOO computer geeky answer, somebody prolly knows more than me. peas.

nooooooo dont tell me that i dont want to lay off the crack..... i like it!! it doesnt happen to me often. i still get tons of stuff off of napster. but i really want to d/l from this one guy cause i get such high speeds from him and he has something i want. ahh this is frustrating but thanks anyways. i guess ill just keep on trying. peace!

P.S. maybe that guy whom you first downloaded from got a firewall 2.. (and you had one all the time) 2 firewalls with napster wont work.. You can also change your ports n stuff to make your firewall stop the stopping of napster downloads cause they are "insecure" according 2 it...

Next to your clock on the lower right?? is there something like a blinking red eye (black ice) or something like zone alarm ooorrrrrr something which coudl probably be a firewall??

um no im not sure are you talking about way on the bottom right on my task bar where is says 3:02am... to the right of that? if thats where then there is nothing there. but would that have to do with napster. see i sent them an email but i dont really understand the reply. oh god i sound like im an idiot. ok im usually really smart but for some reason this has me flip around backwards damn!
Maybe if you went to a computer store, they can help you ??

ok here is what napster sent me:
The default ports that Napster uses to connect you to other users is port 6699 or 6697. If you are behind a firewall, try asking your network administrator to open port 6699 or 6697 on the firewall for your computer. If you are behind a firewall allowing only outgoing HTTP traffic you may need to convert Socks proxy requests, that Napster issues, into HTTP to communicate with Napster servers.
i guess i just need to know what a network administrator is.
if its any help i have my computer networked to another in my home with a network/dsl router thingie. i dont know if that does anything? damn i need a # for some tech support.

u do know napster sent u that to get u confused and to make u go away. most internet things are like that with tech support, its a load of bollocks that only some ppl understand. Ah well i suppose its better than no-one answering ur email.. NOKIA (the bastards) havent emailed me back yet with this code i need to make my fuckin mobile fone work again... If anyone in here works for nokia, dont tell um it was me who email bombed um...
As for the firewall thingy, firewalls only stop the crap hackers. Theres plenty of software u can get for getting round/disabling remote firewalls. If u have the firewall on your home system i dont reccommend running it to be honest, not only does it fuck up a lot of progs that run on the net, but it really doesnt do much either. Thats my point of veiw anyway..

OK a firewall is meant to be a application that you run all the time while connected to the internet,
its primary purpose is to stop nasty ppl accessing and veiwing files on your computer, uploading nasty things to your computer like trojans and viruses and downloading your private files.
it will also stop phreakers and snoopers
these are applications that scan for any open ports or gateways to the internet
A decent firewall will make your computer and its IP address invisable to the net ( stealth mode ).
however all decent firewalls are configurable.
u decide which applications you wish to have access to the internet thru it, like napster
napster will quite happily let you transfer files thru your firewall and from someone else useing a firewall providing you have both configured them properly.
My GF and I both use a firewall and have no problems with transfers in any application, Napster, ICQ, yahoo Pager, Mplayer Pager etc FTP such as Cute.
the best firewall out there is Zonealarm and its Free

Blackice defender is crap, its too weak and easily beaten
what i think is happening with your error on napster is simple, the guy you are trying to download from has configured his firewall to one way traffic, ie he can upload from users on napster but no one can download from him, so you get the firewall error message.
