Farewell Chrome, hello there Opera!

The new Opera is the epitome of awesomeness. Anyone tried it yet?

Recently, I've been using Google Chrome as my general browser and Opera for virtually everything else. It's got a built-in feed aggregator, a mail server, and it can make TA look like an ordinary page, so you can browse it at work if you want with just a few tweaks. It's like the Swiss Army knife of web browsers, but Chrome was lighter and had the quick search thingy at the press of the "tab" key, so I never bothered to change.

The most awesome thing about it is the service called "Opera Unite", which lets you turn your computer into a web server — it can also be password protected if you don't want the world to download your pr0n music.

And, guess what? Opera's now lighter than ever (took 3 secs to open here), and now it's got a search feature similar to that of Chrome's.

Who else is a fan?

me... been using Opera for about a year now. love it!

I use it sometimes. I actually installed the new version of it yesterday, and got the shits when it made itself the default browser without asking me

The red 'O' thing up in the left corner looks weird too, but it's a pretty decent browser.

So why should I switch from Chrome?

Yeah, it's definitely quicker. On it atm.

I might switch back and forth between the two.

Why should I switch from Firefox?

Been using Opera for almost 8 years now. Love it. It is the best browser.

Its faster, more standards compliant, contains a whole suite of features that you might find useful (BT client, news reader, full mail client, personal media/content server), contains most of the things you get from plugins in Firefox by default, and its all in a smaller download than FF.

i cant get excited by browsers. open the website i give you. as long as it does that, im content.

That's what I'm saying. I tried, with dissatisfaction, both opera and chrome. The new version of FF is great, no need to change.

im just using Safari on the iMac as Firefox was hogging a lot of memory as does Safari but Chrome wasn't loading a fair few websites for me.

might give Opera a go..

Just buy some more RAM for your Mac. It's really cheap.

Not sure how i'd install it on the iMac... i could do it on a normal PC computer but iMac's are all in 1.

its really easy and you can find instructions online

Firefox + Allinone Gestures + IETab + Download Statusbar + Colorful Tabs = win

What sort of plugins do you need?

People who use internet explorer and ask innocently why they shouldn't do so annoy the shit out of me.

This is the problem I have with switching to different browsers. I'm so used to using Mouse Gestures and drawing on the page, that it's hard to switch. I tried using Chrome Mouse Gestures, but they completely sucked, crashed my browser, and didn't even work properly. Firefox is so handy because of all the extensions, which is why I will remain an FF user until Chrome or Opera develops the addons I'm used to...

Even worse than these people are those who claim that they are just too lazy to switch to Firefox and think that IE works just fine. These same people have about 20 different toolbars on their Internet Explorer, practically for every application they've ever installed because they're too stupid to read what they're installing and just click through the wizard. Those people simply can't be helped.
