Smiley DJ trance breaks / breakbeat

Hey TA's. I've been in the NY scene for a long time and have constantly monitored the TA forum. I finally decided to start posting, so here's my first:

I've always been into trance for long time and I've recently gotten into breakbeat. I was wondering if anyone else was into trance breaks and if they could list some of their favs.

i didn't know punk is breaks. is that why so many people don't like it (besides the fact that it is overplayed)?

Posted by EarnYourKeep on Jul-16-2002 12:39:

punk isnt breaks...far from it...
a good example would be the bassline break out in the airbase remix of solar coaster.
i think the misunderstanding is the break beatish "break out" of songs. trance is mainly built on the synth (melody) and breaks is mainly focused on the "bass beat" and what interval it lands on.
a good example is sasha's new album - airdrawndagger
and foxy you are so right WAVY GRAVY rox yo sox!

that is what i was told. we'll have to find some trance breaks to go see in NY so I can understand this.

Oakey was awesome 99-2000..
He was horrible in CPi July 4th, and lately he been horrible..
He should stick to movie soundtracks aka Swordfish now..

Breaks are not harder to mix... if u find songs with similar drum pattern, its not too hard.. whats hard to mix is Trance because trance
has melodies.. and if u fuck up, its VERY easy to notice with trance because your listening to the melodies(main, background)and not just the beat.. also, in trance, u must find really the right songs that goe well with eachother, because if u dont, then it just sounds very bad.. no matter how tight your mixing and transition was, if the songs dont fit the armosphere, then its pointless...i find genres that use the beat as the main focus much much easier to mix..and also, its easier to mix at slower bpm..shit i can keep it going forever on 128-130..hope that made sense =)

sasha's new cd has alot of breaks. alot of the progressive house djs went 2 breaks. all the top dj's saying progressive is dead now. theres only a few dj's who spin progressive. mostly all now spin breaks.
