Mark Iliffe – Aotearoa EP (JOOF Recordings)

Mark Iliffe

Mark Iliffe is a 23 years old JOOF Trance enthusiast from Leichestershire in the UK. He has been hooked to the JOOF sounds since he first heard John 00 Fleming Essential mix in 2000. This is the first release where Mark name is the only one to appear on cover, but he already released a stunning single, Daybreak, in collaboration with his mentor, The Digital Blonde, in 2009, also on JOOF Recordings.

Mark Iliffe – Aotearoa EP (JOOF Recordings)

1. Aotearoa (Original Mix)

The EP kicks off with the track that gives the title to the release. As clarified by the author himself on John 00 Fleming forum, the track title means "Land Of The Long White Cloud". According to Mark's intention "the strings represent the snow and blue skies and the evil riff represent the hard rain storms". The artistic influence of The Digital Blonde (taking the form of a small contribution in the creative process) is fairly evident throughout the whole track, that successfully combines epic sounds with a driving kick and twisted effects. The new sounds introduced from 6.02 to 6.30 didn't convince us completely, but do not compromise an overall positive judgment of the track.

2. Electronic Cities (Original Mix)

The second track doesn't wait a single second to get us in the middle of the action with a kick and rolling bassline that reminds some of the recent productions of Magnus and Jay Selway. This track stands out particularly for the original use of the voice samples. Producers of Unicorn vocal trance should definitely listen and take note. After the breakdown the track really delivers the energy you expect from a JOOF release and the track closes out in brilliant style when the background atmospheric pad gets introduced at the 6 minute mark. More of this Trance producers out there!

Tracks to not miss in order of preference: 2, 1.

Yep, have posted an artist "tribute" to them on Trancealert. I forgot to link it in this post review, you can find it here: Magnus and Jay Selway: a dose of Trance adrenaline.
Mark Iliffe with this release has showed to have the potential to follow their path.

I saw it, saw your site on the J00F forum and have been checking it reguarly. Actually all the tracks you posted have been some of my favorite tracks of the past two years . Jay Selway and Magnus truly have something special going!

By the way, have you heard Jay Selway & Magnus - Stronghold? Jay released it for free on his myspace, definitely worth checking out!

Mark Iliffe is showing potential, can't wait to see his future productions! Not that I havn't been enjoying this one alot
