Michael J. Fox Vacations Near Tijuana

quote:
(CNN) -- A string of earthquakes and aftershocks rattled the Pacific Coast of the United States and Mexico on Sunday, including a magnitude 7.2 quake that could be felt across Baja California, Arizona and southern California, the U.S. Geological Survey reported.

There were no immediate reports of injuries and only limited reports of damages from that quake, which struck at 3:40 p.m. PT about 175 kilometers (110 miles) east-southeast of Tijuana.

"We felt it for about 30 seconds. It was rolling," San Diego County Sheriff's Lt. Scott Ybarrondo told CNN. "Nothing fell off the walls here, but we have reports of pictures falling off walls elsewhere in the county."

The next-largest, a magnitude 4.1 quake, rattled windows nine minutes later in Santa Rosa, north of San Francisco. No damage was reported there, and Susan Potter, a USGS geophysicist, told CNN that was a separate quake from the one that struck in the Baja California desert.

Chandeliers swung and water sloshed around in swimming pools in the Los Angeles suburbs, witnesses reported, while posters to Twitter reported feeling the quake in Phoenix, Arizona.

Capt. Steve Ruda, a spokesman for the Los Angeles city fire department, said there were "isolated" power outages and a few people reported trapped in elevators, but no injuries or structural damage was reported. The Baja California quake spawned at least five aftershocks, the largest of which was a magnitude 5.1, Potter said.

I miss earthquakes. Its been a few years since the PNW has been rattled, and I really want another small-ish one to make its way through the area.

6 minutes after my post.. hopefully things arn't too bad in Tijuana I was sorta potentially suppose to be headed there in May. Of course selfishness aside earthquakes suck for people, hopefully peoples lives arn't disrupted in those areas effected.

Posted by Lews on Apr-05-2010 01:11:

The fuck are you talking about?

Anyways: Hope everyone in California is alright. Doesn't sound like there was any major damage anywhere?

Yeah Jake I'd like some small ones. Not the huge one that's supposed to destroy all of downtown Seattle, but some small ones would be nice.

maybe the extra water is causing a wobble?

hey if guam can sink why not the continental U.S. and the rest of north america? God said like only 1/3rd of the planet would be left or something. How do you explain where the rest of it goes?

You in South California?

It felt like a boat ride sway, not an earthquake with dynamic seismic waves. This observation stood out to me because of the past, earthquakes felt like they were a mix of higher frequency and lower frequency waves, more randomness to the frequencies of the waves (shaking). To describe today's Earthquake in music terms i'd say there was a higher resolution, lower frequency, and lower compressed threshold to the waves. Versus Eartquakes of the past being a mix of different waves, higher frequency and lower frequency waves, with less resolution and a higher threshold (more room for dynamic wave frequencies).

Which makes me ask if there is a difference in frequency dynamics, spacing between the waves, types of waves, of a HAARP induced earthquake and a naturally occuring one.
