Looking for more house and other things

Within the past few years I've gotten really into the whole EDM scene, and I am currently looking to expand my horizons.

I've got a wide selection of trance, and don't really need any help finding more good trance, but what I'm having trouble finding is more great house DJs.

Currently, my favorite by far is Deadmau5 (yeah, I'm a mainstream fag) and I'm looking for more music similar to his. There is, oddly enough, something about the repetitiveness of the beat that appeals to me.

Anyways, suggestions!

I hate n00bs asking for recommendations. I'd suggest you go look at his playlists tho.

How many years back does that trance collection of yours go?
Not really far I guess otherwise I think you would have ran into great House DJ's automatically.

Well, many great house artist out there like Armand van Helden and Olav Basoski.

If you like Deadmau5 which is quite trancy some times you may like:

-Ali Wilson (Specially Tekelec Remixes)
-Marco V
-Duderdstadt
-Arty
-Element One

This are some of my favourites progressive artists Arnej is amazing too but it's heavily influenced by trance.

And as pure house djs i find Tocadisco pretty good.

Unlike Deadmau5 he actually throws down a wicket set and has his own unique sound. As for his productions, its wonky party music... yes some of it has fart bass... But stop saying he is as bad as deadmau5 when it is completely untrue.

Deadmau5 is a talentless attention whore nerd who got lucky and has never made real music, vs Joey who used to produce deep house and actually brings something to the genre.

Enjoying Tocadisco a lot, as well as Arnej and Marco V. Wolfgang Gartner is decent too.

As far as my trance collection goes, I'm not really too sure if I'm a nub on the subject as well, but I have plenty of it. Andy Blueman, Armin, Above & Beyond, Cold Blue, John O'Callaghan, Plastic Angel, etc... I dunno.

Thanks for the suggestions. After the first two replies I had figured this was like all other scenes where everyone's a fucking e-prick to anyone who asks a question they don't like, but it seems that's not the case.

eh, check out Swedish House Mafia if you're into Deadmau5. They were somewhat of a segue for Deadmau5.

I saw Wolfgang Gartner in January, fucking awesome electro house set. He's a really solid DJ too, I was impressed with his mixing and transitioning.

Apparently Wolfgang and Deadmau5 are in the studio together.. wonder what they'll come up with.

I haven't heard much from gartner but from what I have heard I think that deadmau5 is better. I know a lot of his stuff sucks but you can't totally put him down after hearing tracks like Arguru or Faxing Berlin.

Agreed, deadmau5 just pisses me off. Gartners production range is alot more interesting to me and sounds less cookie cutter. Those two tracks aside, Ghosts n Stuff does make the wonky party type crowd go crazy... I guess its not deadmau5's fault, but alot of the types who "sortof" listen to EDM only go crazy when I drop a deadmau5 track, because its "deadmau5 the most awesome dj ever". That being said is the reason I don't like djing electro house. Its alot of fun to dance too, but even for such a mainstream genre of edm, not enough people want to get into most tracks...

Its like most people these days want to hear bomb track after bomb track 100% of the time like they are listening to a radio, and don't appreciate buildup of energy through a well thought out set. But then again, I am just repeating stuff people have said 1000's of times before on this forum. I blame deadmau5 for that, lol.

This is incredibly true, and why I want to delve deeper into the EDM scene and learn more and more DJs. I want to be farrrr from "that guy" that just knows what Ghost's N Stuff is.

I went to a tiny club in Boston called "Enormous Room", which I heard from some people was an okay club but not amazing, but the DJ there put together such an amazingly well done set it was epic. You could tell everyone in the room was completely immersed in the set.

Anyway, I guess I'm not looking so much for just house, but awesome EDM in general.

Also, if DJs like Blueman and Cold Blue aren't Trance, what are they? Excuse my nubletness.

They are "uplifting trance", alot more credible than most of the generic vocal tracks that are basically just uninspired pop anthems. I started off listening to trance through producers like that, but lost interest because of a "lack of diversity" among so many of them. Many people on this forum have different definitions of what trance should be (and I don't disagree with them).

For me, this track is true trance... Deep, lush, entrancing, but not completely overblown like many of today's productions.



If you are into more epic style trance, check this one out as well, trully a masterpiece. Gives me chills every time I listen to it:



My recommendation is keep digging around, listen to what you like, and don't be scared off by stigmas of a certain genre. If you are interested shoot me a PM and I can point you to alot of tracks/music labels that you might find more accessible than what many on here consider "true early 90s trance" that they will post. And while those tracks are great as well, its difficult to appreciate them by just suddenly starting to listen to them. Keep exploring, and define your taste.

Aha. I definitely see the difference. I assume Just Be/In My Memory and before era of Tiesto is actual trance? By the way, all of those songs are absolutely awesome, especially the Arksun one.

Its not for me. God octopus, one of my favorite Art of Trance tracks the remix is even better.

When I was first getting into edm I took one look at acid trance and thought something along the lines of, "man that would be lame to roll to, turn on that ecstasy by ATB"

Being sober helps you tell good tracks from complete shit, I can tell you that much

Epic trance, although I am not a huge fan of Tiesto he has made some pretty good tracks. For example, under his Kamaya Painters alias(along with the dude from Rank 1):

Gouryella - Ligaya is what trance should be, some people say that Ti�sto and Armin van Buuren are atracting people to trance, false I'd not classify "in and out of love" as EDM it's almost pop music.

Trance was better in the 90's early 2000. Now the whole scene it's polluted by commercial and generic music, it's really hard to find a track that it's original, you listen and rarely catches your attention.

This track it's so old, analogic synths and builds all over the song , epic banging and melodic in a track....

Now few producers have gained my respect , i usually love what Andy Blueman and SoundLift do although they're a bit stuck in their own style which is good but all their tracks are cookie cutter (at least they are stuck making awesome tracks which doesn't justify their lack of innovation)

Awesome track , 90% of the uplifting trance tracks now are:

Kicks + Bass --->Strings -------> Break With Strings -----> Arp + Strings ----> Kick + Bass

New sounds, new structures... please
