Asot 500 Needs To Come To San Francisco...
New York was so lucky to get the asot party treatment for Asot 450, twice!
no doubt Armin wants to go even bigger for the 500th episode 10 year celebrations next year.
I say SF has as good a stake as any city in the U.S. if not better, to be apart of this massive event... (if Armin & Armada deem so of course)
I would love to see this in Cali, but i doubt SF
i'm not too familiar with SF venues - but i'm wondering where could they host it in SF? Is there somewhere big enough?
Sure they could. Bill Graham, Warfield, The Fillmore, one of the piers (I'd recommend Pier 27 if possible), whatev. They could find something. I've brought it up for sure...but whether something happens, really think Armin will decide where he wants it and then work with the organizers wherever.
That said, I really think he's gonna try to line it up with WMC next year and do it from there (imagine, he could do like a 18 hour broadcast between a daytime party and nighttime party, and get just about any DJ he wants!). WMC week might end up falling right in line with where ASOT500 needs to be. ASOT450 was only a week or two after this years WMC, and 50 weeks from ASOT450 might be right when WMC is. And if it's not lined up perfectly (it'd be off one week max), I bet he'll do a WMC one + other cities.
And yes, I think LA & SF and maybe something like Vegas be perfect if he did something on the west coast.
Outside of NYC, those are prob the three cities he fancies the most in the US.
Would work best in LA imo.
LA might be the most obvious because it's LA (publicity), but I imagine he'll do multiple cities again.
I personally think the west coast doesn't have much of a shot based on the time difference from Europe. I think that is why a East Coast/Europe combo was chosen.
I really want to go to ASOT 500...it's going to be huge. I wonder if Armin will go back to a 3-day one-weekend format like last year. Somehow that made a bigger impression on me. I was locked in for 3 days....this time not so much.
But I can also see trying to make it ~50 episodes a year this way to keep the event in April.
My friend who was with us at TE 2010, continued to Bratislava for the 4th ASOT 450 show, and then to Poland -- doh!
It made me think how many times I have traveled for trance and how much that would suck if I traveled far and some freak thing would happen like that. Those sorts of trips are expensive!
So...I would really like to see it happen here, that would guarantee I could make it...I am just doubting it. I think South America could be in the running based on time zone! And..the Miami WMC thing could make sense.
I liked the star island free event. But the free wont happen anymore - got out of hand.
idk, i just feel like there has been such a legendary trance scene in SF for so long that if Armin were doing a globe spanning number of shows for 500 that included a west coast stop, theres no way SF should be overlooked...

I dont think it'll be in SF. Armin said back during ASOT400 that he would like to do episode 500 on the moon.
I doubt it would be here as welll even though i pray it will be, i think he will try to hit another country and continue building the list of new places he has held them
Cow Palace wouldnt be a bad idea, GUARANTEE that will even sell out
Warfeild seems much too small
Keep in mind the amount of servers and such he needs to have on site
Servers for what? I'm sure it just takes a regular video production crew at the site to record/encode the video/audio. The video gets relayed to a production facility offsite via the internet, and that's where the servers and massive amounts of bandwith come into play.
If you have a set of fixed cameras in place, and maybe one roaming camera (if you want to go through that), you need maybe three people.
1 to operate the camera
1 to operate the switcher
1 to just make sure audio levels are good and otherwise be an ultimate tech person to make sure everythign is good and resolve any issues. Basically, the person who is prob overseeing everything.
Setup and testing would be the bitch, but if you work with a venue who knows their stuff today setting up webcasts is easier than ever. Once that was done, you'd be good.
And you'd just need a switcher with a video capture card. You don't need anything special. If you want CG (overlays), then that's just another piece of equipment.
You could rent all this for relatively cheap. Free reign would be Sony Anycast w/ HD-SDI connects, just some prosumer HDV cameras with HD-SDI out, and just a good audio feed, and then a mic hooked up for an interview area. Then just a half-decent machine to do video encoding. If they want HD streaming, then a good quad-core or i5 or i7 computer would suffice, with using viewcast capture card in any rather recent system (powerful duo-core, but any quad-core/i5/i7 system would be fine)
The trick is, yes, which provider they go through. You only need to send a single upload stream. Provider recommend a backup stream, too, but I've never encountered anyone who actually does it .
If Armin does anything out here, I could train a couple people on what to do the switcher/camera and take care of everything else myself. And I'd just ask for cost of travel, hotel, equip rental, they deal with cost of bandwidth, and if I take off time from work just make sure whatever pay I lose is covered (whether I have vacation time or not doesn't matter). I would not look to make profit. Being passionate sucks sometimes. Adn it pisses me off when I see people use full on companies with big, unnecessary teams and still do a suck-ass job.

The Colliseum in LA? Can stay open till 4am. Would be perfect. One massive stage, 5 or 6 artists, good production. Would be great if the season is fine for it.
Eh, I wouldn't want a HUGE event like that. For an ASOT anniversary, I'd want at least some type of intimate setting. I think only a club or a closed in venue would be proper. Even if it was like The Shrine or anything. There's no need for 3,000 or 4,000 people to be in a venue. That shouldn't be the point of ASOT500.
That said, I still expect WMC to be the center-stone of it. The timing of it next year should line up just about perfect for ASOT500.
And if Armin wanted to do an ultimate insane type of ASOT500 party, I am sure he could fill up any large venue in Miami. Even an Arena. People would travel from all over for it...and be the incentive for so many people out there to finally make it to WMC. That would ultimately be the best thing for him to do PR wise.
