boat cruise season

Well another boat cruise season is upon us.

I want to be excited for this but last year left a bitter taste in my mouth. I can't think of one cruise I went on last year that I REALLY enjoyed (vs the previous years where I had a great time on pretty much every boat party I went on). Boats leaving late or coming back early, sound issues, sound police, super annoying long search lines ... etc.

The two cruises I went on duing WMC were so much fun though I am not ready to give up on cruises in TO just yet. Hopefully there will be some better organization from the promoters & hopefully the boat operators / fun police won't be such dicks.

Maybe if there wasnt two or three a week, people would actually get excited about them, and the talent would be top notch rather than anyone they can book to play the boat that weekend.

They are a dime a dozen to me now, and only will pick the cream of the crop cruises to attend this season.

Mother nature needs to stop being a **** and lighten up this year on the weekend rain.

Many boat cruise parties seem to have become just another afterparty....

I will also be selective this year to avoid disappointment ....

Posted by jon jon on May-04-2010 19:45:

I wasn't that shit hot about last season either, especially the last month...

people burn out, that's why the first one + canada day boats are usually the best ones... they always kick off summer in such a big way!

Posted by RobSt*r on May-04-2010 19:50:

Maybe promoters could work together to assemble two or three, at the most, cruises a month that are stellar, rather than competing like a pack of dogs for a dead animal, to fill as many boats as they can every weekend.

EDIT:

From what I remember, hardly one fuckin boat I was on last year, which was at least over half a dozen, left on time, stayed on the water for what I paid for, and filled to capacity. Talent was so so for most of them, I enjoyed a few special headliners.

Posted by ChemEnhanced on May-04-2010 19:59:

I was thinking maybe one or two a month...if that many. I just don't see them as anything special anymore....it was fun the first few times I did them.

I'm very skeptical about boat cruises this season. It seems like boat cruises keep getting worse and worse with the following problems (in order of importance):

1. Boats leaving late and docking early
2. Very low volumes on boats
3. Too many people G'ing out and treating boat cruises like Comfort Zone on water
4. Fort Knox style searches and banning sunscreen

I've all but given up and dealing with the "regular scene" crowd on boats. There are just way too many stupid, stupid people who cross the line and ruin it for everybody. I'm looking forward to other boat cruises and outdoor events where I don't have to deal with this horrible, irresponsible crowd anymore. The last boat cruise season was simply an unacceptable mess.

I will be going on the Victor Calderone cruise on Canada Day, but my willingness to go to any boat cruises beyond that is pretty low, especially if the same level of stupidity is around this year as was around last year (which I fully expect it to be).

It's understandable, people aren't that stupid. $40-60 is still a bit of change. And when you are paying that much and consistently NOT getting what you paid for, it makes sense that people become much more selective about going to these events or not going to them at all.

Good points also. But unfortunately we can not search and discard stupidity at the dock like G

You're right. Refer to my point about having all but given up on this crowd.

To me, I am more inclined to go on a boat, with a lesser quality talent, providing I know more of the people I like are gonna be in attendance, providing a solid vibe and happy times. (hasnt been many of those in a few years for me)

We all know which promoters and boats cater to different crowds in the scene..........cough cough amigos cough sketch cough.

I agree 100% on all of the above posts ^^

Last season was simply unacceptable, and I'm hoping that Promoters are doing everything they can this year to address these issues.

Posted by PurpleHaze on May-04-2010 21:24:

I really have absolutely no desire for any boat cruises this summer, EXCEPT for the Calderone Canada Day cruise which I KNOW will be 100% worth my money.

I have only gone on 4 boat cruises since I've started partying...I pick and choose the ones that mean the most to me and that I have a good feeling won't be a complete FLOP:

-Danny Howells (Sept 23 2007)
-Dance 2 Da Boat w/ Aquaviva (Sept 1 2008)
-C&C Canada Day Cruise (July 1, 2009)
-Honey Dijon cruise (July 19, 2009)

Pretty much try to keep it to 1 a summer, 2 MAX if there's a good cruise other than Canada Day.

I wholeheartedly agree in that there are wayyyyyyyyy too many redundant cruises. Seriously, every fucking weekend there's another cruise with the same locals, same ppl. Why?!?!?! Cruises should be SPECIAL and OCCASIONAL events. The more garbage ones you have the more it takes away from the good ones...it's being way too played out.

I can say right now that I will never pay $40-50 to see locals on a cruise for fuck sakes (unless it was something like Addy + Deko-ze + Cam Maxwell + Irgo + D-Unity etc Iberican Local Tribal Party HINT HINT HINT heheh)

And ya, the the fucking wait to leave the dock....... SSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
OOOOOOUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS buzzkill!!!!! People get so frustrated and annoyed waiting on the boat to leave that it literally KILLS any previous vibe of getting on and takes a while to even remotely get back, especially when the volume's sooooooo low/weak and only on the water for 2hrs max now.

Actually the more I write about this the more furious I'm getting....fuck it you get my point, im pouring myself a stiff drink now.

I know there was a similar thread in late 2008 and last year and I pretty much gave up on cruises after the first one I went on last year. I know it puts the promoters and the boats in a difficult position but I have ofter wondered if they started to take a strict approach with the problems if a certain group of people will get the message that they aren't welcomed.

Things to try
1. Start boarding early and have enough security to do a good search and get everyone on board early and leave on time. If people are late leave without them.
2. Make it very clear that drugs are not welcomed on board (come on people its a Saturday or Sunday afternoon) and if needed work with the police until people get the message.
3. If people G out or get totally wasted and are a problem deal with those people right away and severely

Look at what is happening at Picnik this year and Cherry Beach last year. Since there was a group of people who didn't get the concept of a daytime party both promoters have had to change their events because people were getting way too wasted and bringing bad attention to the parties. Now we can't bring booze to Picnik and we have to party in a bush instead of a beach.

+1 to everything...boat cruises are suppose to be chill out and dance time with friends and cold beverages. There is a time and place to be stupid and on a boat is not the time or the place.

People need to work together for the good of the business and do boat cruises as a unit instead of competing against each other.

Last year was full of promoters barely able to pay the boat and the DJ talent, let alone spend money on promo (a facebook invite is part of a promotional campaign, it isn't the whole thing) and that's why you would have dead cruises.

Posted by geroin on May-05-2010 00:17:

i'm only going to hit 1 or 2 cruises this year at most.

They won't.

Same reason why clubs/promotors don't co-operate and try and throw larger parties...that would be just total awesomeness. Like in the late 90s...

Posted by Joe Drust on May-05-2010 00:34:

the boats never leave on time... it is to the point where I wonder if they are even allowed to go out at the time that they state on the tickets. 2 years running now, various promoters and all of them left late, and usually they came in early as well. All with different reasons. Last year was by far the worst.

Makes me sad because I really used to love boat cruises. It rarely seems worth the investment anymore.

RANDOM-
I really need to catch a cruise in Miami next year!
