Do you floss?

I hadn't for a long time and decided to give it a go. It was surprisingly satisfying.

Are dentists the only people who do this on a regular basis?

Posted by JD8180 on May-09-2010 15:22:

every night before bed

Posted by Silky Johnson on May-09-2010 15:23:

Every night. Ew fuck @ people who don't. Nasty gumline + bad breath ftl.

what's wrong with those?

Do this, floss your teeth, look at what comes out, then smell it. That's what people who talk to you are picking up on. Still think you don't need to?

You're supposed to see/smell something?

If you do that's plaque and tartar and what causes bad breath and gum disease.

I floss twice a day And for some reason it really annoys my girlfriend

I do that every time I floss anyway.

Why do they recommend against it?

That's what I use usually. With the braces however, I now need to thread the stupid floss into every tooth individually and it takes FOREVER! I hate flossing now

yeah they don't.. apparently they are ebrasive against the gums and are more damaging then good (The plastic bits at least).

These ones are recomended and were recommended to me. I find them annoying though as they break easily if you arent gentle with them flossing between teeth.

That doesn't make sense to me... you aren't putting the plastic part through your teeth - just the floss. It's exactly the same floss as regular floss, just held between a plastic thing. *confused*

I would think the ones you show there would be more abrasive (isn't that pretty thick to try and ram between your teeth?) I use something similar to that to clean between the brackets of my braces, but I am not supposed to put it between my teeth.

i just regular dental floss. i try to do it every day, but at least 3x a week. my bottom teeth are fucked, so flossing is a good idea.

Posted by JD8180 on May-09-2010 21:31:

only problem i could really think of with the flossers are for the people that have tight teeth maybe? I have some teeth that are a bit crowded and tight, and I know kind of just put the floss between my teeth and bite softly on the plastic part, forcing the floss in between my teeth.

maybe that snapping in is damaging to your gums?

Every day. It's my favorite daily hygiene ritual.

Posted by Sunsnail on May-09-2010 22:23:

I don't really know much about it except it was two separate dentists who told me no.

After every meal...Which seems to be a bit more than normal according to this thread

I'm back on board the flossing train. I don't know why I stopped--it's almost fun.
