Dunno My experience at club Set...

So last night I saw Wippenberg at Club Set. I loved his set but what shocked me was the way that the place operates. Maybe there's something I'm missing, being that it was my first time at that venue. I knew about the dress code but even with proper attire they were giving us problems getting into the club. I'd understand if we did not have tickets but that wasn't the case. There wasn't much of a crowd outside waiting to get in (we were the only pre-sales in the crowd) yet we had to continually hassle the guy at the front. After about an hour he finally let us in even though his facial expression and tone of voice clearly implied that he did not really want us there. We then find out that the cover is $25 when our PRE-sales were $35...wtf? Once inside we kept getting pushed aside by bouncers, door men, and even the people sweeping the floors even though there was PLENTY of walking room. I tried to put all that behind me because they did have a nice visual set-up (probably my favorite if it wasn't for the weird lay out)

So I'm dancing and enjoying the music when I receive a text from some friends (3 girls, 1 guy) that were outside waiting to get in. They also had pre-sales and were dressed in proper attire. They said the guy at the front (same one from before) kept avoiding them and after about 45 mins he told them to leave because they weren't getting in. The only logical thing to assume is that he denied them entry because 1 of the girls was overweight.

There are so many things that didn't seem right about that night. My girlfriend read a lot of bad things about that venue but I never expected it to be like that. Chances are very slim that I'll ever be going back.

Anyone have any information and/or experiences that could help me understand why this club operates in such a way?

ive heard similar stories before. never been and probably will never go just because of this. if you look at the wanttickets pages of their shows it always says "Admission at doormans discretion." so even if you buy a ticket they can still tell you to fuck off. i will not subject myself to that kinda bullshit.

what i dont understand is how they can take your money and not offer you the services which you paid for in return. shouldnt that be some kind of better business bureau issue?

I believe most clubs in Miami Beach leave it to the doormans discretion...actually that happened to me at Space a couple times now that I think about it...lol...it was very suprising...and at Mansion as well

if you have to think about it to remember then you're probably misremembering what actually happened. ive never seen space or mansion do this. just because you have to wait a second to get ided or to get checked off the list doesnt mean you're being discriminated against the way set does it to people.

i hate it when people come for wmc for example and everyones like "oh no, mansion is so strict, can i even get in?" because its such bullshit. it might take awhile, but everyone gets let in. space is only ever an issue on big nights when they over sell tickets. but thats a totally different matter anyway.

I am sorry this happened to you. This is the true definition of "trendy SouthBeach clubs" only for the beautiful people. It is really sad. I heard about this on Friday afternoon and couldnt find any information about it so I didnt go. Wow Whippenberg thats pretty awesome though.

Yup, I read that part. My g/f was way more upset because they were her friends that got denied entry. I reminded her about the "admission at doorman's discretion" part but she made the point of them having paid the money and not receiving what they paid for. The doorman told them that they could get a refund on wantickets but I'm pretty sure that's BS. When I was talking with the lady that had the will call list, about the cheaper door price vs pre-sale price, she said that opium group had nothing to do with wantickets. I'm sure that they have to have some sort of arrangement (correct me if I'm wrong) but its obvious that there's a lack of communication between the two groups.

And yea I do believe it is a better business bureau issue because customers/guests are getting shafted. Let's see what wantickets will do about the situation.

The place was crowded but there was plenty of room to dance. Yea it was pretty awesome.

I really enjoyed his set but he doesn't do much when it comes to crowd interaction.

I remember a couple years back I kept hearing about how mansion is strict and won't let you in sometimes even if you have a ticket. Luckily I've never had that problem with them, even though the wait times can get lengthy. I'll be on my way to Mansion tonight for Roger Sanchez, so we'll see how it goes.

honestly wanttickets is pretty good so i wouldnt be surprised if they do in fact get a refund. the only way you really cant get a wanttickets refund is if you forget your id or credit card and then they dont give you the tickets because well thats your fuck up and not theirs. let us know what happens though.

regarding the presales vs door prices... this is always a risk with these smaller shows. plenty of times ive bought presales for $20 + service fee and then got to the door and it was just $20 or less. hell even for space shows, they always have presales but then its free at the door. this happened to me for sander van doorn in sept and december 2007. bought presales and then it was free at the door.

i just hate how they take your money and then dont get let you in. i mean, theres fucking super exclusive clubs all over the world, and thats all fine and dandy, be as discriminating as you want to be, but then dont sell tickets before hand!!

that shit about mansion is a myth. the long waits are obviously not, but if you bought a ticket, they'll let you in.

one time sasha was playing at set, on a sunday night no less (so I really doubt it was that busy). anyway, it was my friend's birthday so me, him, and a girl went to go see him at set. my friend I guess didn't fit the mold that the bouncer wanted, so he told him "sorry, you can't wear a short sleeve shirt here." literally after like 5 minutes, he lets in 2 guys wearing t-shirts. my friend nicely pulled the bouncer and was like "come on man, we're just here to have a good time, we have presales and everything, you just let in some guys with short sleeved shirts so don't give us that" and to that, the bouncer basically replied "sorry, but you guys are not going to be getting in tonight"

the lady working the will call made note that we wanted refunds on her wantickets list, and we all emailed them when we got home. wantickets was really cool about us and gave each of us a refund for it. I suggest you tell your friends to email them as soon as possible.

lol, yea wantickets never refunds your money. You have to do a chargeback. I've done it myself for over $400 worth. Wantickets are greedy bastards that have poor communications with their clients (club venues). fuck em and do the chargeback.

im just pointing out that you're wrong. i dont like spreading false information. especially bullshit about mansion being so elite because its not.

what happened that they didnt want to give you a refund? because ive never had a problem and many other people have had their issues resolved as well.

if you're going to party at the beach. dress nice, wear clothes that fit and you'll be fine.

i got into set in 30 seconds 2 girls 3 guys

i think everyone has to be aware of the image clubs like set, liv or mokai want to keep (mansion is not strict at all)

miami isn't about the music, its about getting girls, popping bottles and making money. thats just the way it is. but if you go dressed like you want to fit into that crowd you'll be fine and enjoy yourself.

the only thing i hate about set is.. they regulate what the dj plays

wippenbergs tracklist was good. but everything he played was very well known/lots of vocals

that was due to set making demands.. :/

The Opium group has always been about looks and money, also who you know, this ain't new...sorry to hear dude

No idea why...I had tix that said guaranteed admission before X time, so we got there 2 hours before, and the wantickets booth was already closed, lol. Venue knew about it, and said they had also oversold, and no one else could get in. Long story short, I explained the situation to wantickets who told me tough luck, they aren't responisible, and sorry no refund. So I did the chargeback, they tried to fight it, and my CC company awarded me. Even the lady from my CC company said these ticket companies always try to screw people over and that they usually always allow the chargeback.
