Reason 5 is already/still looking like a complete joke!

http://www.propellerheads.se/reason5/

quote:
upgraded Dr. Octo Rex loop player loads eight REX loops into one player and lets you switch between them on the fly. This makes arranging a breeze - load the drum loops into one player, the guitars into another and use the sequencer to select what loop to play in a pattern-like fashion.
.

You could just paste clips of audio one after the other in any other sequencer.

quote:

With eight loops to switch between, the new rex also comes ready for the experimental minded. Set the player to retrig the loops on the beat, on the bar or on the 16th note. Or program the loops manually like in the original rex player.

Beat Repeat, generic Glitch VST, or any sequencer with audio editing capabilities...

quote:

For each of the eight loops, the new rex player also comes with an expanded set of per-slice settings. Set pan, pitch, filter frequency and level, reverse slices, use multiple outputs, create alternating groups of slices and much more.

Dr. Octo Rex coming in Reason 5.

Seems groundbreaking for a DAW that doesn't work with audio...

I hope they thought of something more original.

Well that's just one new feature in Reason 5.

Gotta wait fer the whole feature list man

Will be good to see whats new with reason 5. The problem is they will always hold back on stuff to keep people interested. The audio (record) could have been done years ago.

Would be nice if they upgraded the filter/eq/compression section.

what exactly are you looking for?

Posted by music2dance2 on May-24-2010 22:41:

I guess after using other DAW's you get used to new things when coming back to reason. Not saying it cant do what I need.

I like the eq's when you can click on the grid and drag to a point. And a HP filter on ECF-42 would be nice.

As for compression come to think of it that part isnt a huge prob, I'm fond of the comp-01 still. Its just seems when the move up a version not alot changes, well to version 4 from 3 anyway. They say 5 will include the most amount of changes and new stuff so looking forward to it.

Thanks cool of you mate cheers, but its ok. I've used techniques to HP but to have it included in the ecf-42 as a device would be good in R5.

I wonder if a new synth will be added. A spectrum analyser would be sweet though.

dr rex is the only device i never used in Reason. an upgrade of that to me is pointless. i hope theres more to it. like pasting wavs into the sequencer (like record). actually i hope they combine Reason and Record because Record was a fucking stupid move by Propelerhead, eventough i like the mixer.

edit: after reading it seems that Record is v1.5. Lame. I think im donne with Reason for a while now. They just cant seem to be able to add new great things, its been the same since 2.5.

Nice to see that the new release will be keeping with the spirit of past releases then.

Honestly, Rebirth was a great idea and remains a great idea for mobile (Ipad/iphone) music fiddling. But Reason has never been sensible ever since it became possible to run high quality VSTs on your computer.

If Propellerheads were smart they'd sell out to ableton or cubase or someone who could integrate their synths/devices/instruments into a real DAW.

I believe the record thing was just a money spinner, to drag it out even more. Rather than just have Reason 5 with audio and what not, record was just a way of getting more cash, then they can upgrade reason and still make more. Who can blame them i suppose but doesnt do much for existing users.

Dr rex is a good device to use. I didnt use it for some time but once you do its great, the new version looks good also.

Posted by Zak McKracken on May-25-2010 18:18:

dr rex would be awesome if i could import a wav-loop into it, select a bpm and lenght and then just split the whole wav (or the image of it) into 16th allowing to adjust pitch as u want without destroying the speed. and with some timestretching possibilities etc. it is actually a terrible device imo. well im getting finished with this program, it has done its job for me and i thank them for that, it has been a great ride, but now its time to move on.

Indeed that would be great if it done that. It has its limits but each to there own. I found it hard to fit into my tracks but once you figure things out is ok.

Have to agree on the moving on part. This year I am taking the leap to another program to use. I'll prob still use reason from time to time, but like you its done its job and time to use something new.

Despite our views on it and the slightly negative views in this thread it, reason will go on to do well by many users, as its a great tool, used by many professionals I look up to, and also a great way to get into production for a beginner, as speaking from experience.

yeah Reason is a great app and I recommend it to anyone, it can do just about anything inside the box and its the most solid, effective program I ever tried. Just pure rock solid with great included instruments and samples.
I just dont see the point on keep on upgrading for me anymore as it really doesnt add much in the latest upgrades, things that I miss more and more in a DAW is still lacking. This plus the Record politics of Propellerheads has convinced to move on.

Couldnt agree more, I actually purchase record but then I sold it as I knew someone who wanted it more than me. Glad I did as its not ideal, especially once youve started to use other programs. As you say waiting for the upgrades isnt ideal when you could use something else. I guess this all comes when you've been using it for some time and just want certain things from it which you know they could have done years ago.

Ableton would be insane with Reason synths. Absolutely INSANE.
