Untitled - Work in Progress

I've had massive writer's block the last month or so, been really depressed . I only got to the break, but really just curious how this sounds to another set of ears, if anyone minds

I've been working on this some more after some feedback on soundcloud and figured i'd post it here, so if you feel like listening, that would be awesome

my god! your midline bass is siiiick! however, i do think that it kinda overwhelms the low end of your song. correct me if i'm wrong, but this is the main part, yeah? or the intro...

if its the intro then i can't wait to hear the main bassline.

drum/perc sounds good, although you may want to higher the volume on the hats and add a nice snare or clap.

anyways, the synth that comes in at 0:49 that sounds kinda like a sax sounds kinda cheesy imho. i would change it to something more of a plucky "saw-ish" sound and add some delay and little bit of reverb to it. overall, your concept is really good, just some minor changes, and it could be sounding much much better.

Thank you so much for the feeback, I can't tell you how awesome it is to have someone else listen lol.

For that one synth, you mean the one that comes in at the beginning or the one that is introduced at 0:28?

I'll fix that stuff when I get some more free time. That synth at 0:49 was just something i kinda threw in there and didn't think much of it, but still left it there haha. But yeah, thanks for the feedback man

Nah the synth/bassline at :29 is sick, but as I said, add some low end if its the main bassline.

The one synth I'm taking about is the one that solos at around 1:23 to 1:29.

And no problem

I give feedback based on songs that I've heard on Anjunabeats or Armada or whatever, so if I'm harsh at times then you know why haha

Hmm, i wonder if what i have now could be an intro, then at the end have a fill or something that opens into an epic bassline (somehow ). I changed that sax-ish lead to pluck, but i'm not so sure about it.

I'm gonna need to work on it a lot this week, gonna be up in the mountains today so I won't get a chance to upload until this evening.

Harsh is good man, no worries

Wow! Like somebody else said, that mid-bass-synth was INSANE! Jesus. It annihilates your other sounds in quality, haha. Not in a bad way.

Can I ask you how you made it?

Thanks man

I actually used a preset in sylenth1, and then added a bunch of effects (eq'd some stuff, bit of compression, delay, reverb, and some distortion). I believe the distortion is what made it sound good lol.

Hopefully make some progress on this today

Having heard the first version, just now, and now listening to this - I gotta say I thought the first showed potential and, so far, this is realizing a lot of that. There was a resonance to the mid-line bass that this one seems missing out on - that I liked.

The final part, after the second LP filter sweep sounds really out of key.

Thanks man, it means a lot, especially coming from you

I'll fiddle with it and try to get it back. The bassline-thing that came in towards the end is really bugging me. It sounds good by itself (it's detuned), but when i go to make it in tune, it loses that sound. Guess i'll have to find a compromise heh.

My computer is not enjoying this project, i'm pretty much maxed out since i don't have any gear.

I ran into every sort of technical problem with my latest too. A lot of my old tracks required a really disciplined plan in order to get them to a finished product - and that was on my old system. The new one has quirks I am still contending with. My advice is don't be afraid to freeze a few tracks to get the tune down. If you think far enough, ahead, you can usually bounce a few and be done with them - but always, always keep some form of archive in case of any major changes.
