Atlantic Hurricane Season to be "record breaking"

of course, they don't talk about land-falling hurricanes, and they don't mention the amount of people who are going to be affected by this. and they don't mention when during the season all this shit storm of hell is going to occur. and honestly, WTF is up w/ the 14-23 named storms range??? are you fucking serious? 14 is a lot different than 23...

i'd honestly like to know what kind of secret squirrel weather stuff they have down there to come up w/ these forecasts. or if it's just a bunch of random numbers.

in any case, hope nothing goes into the gulf. you know, what with the oil and all.

Whats the average hurrican count? we dont hear much across the pond...

We haven't had anything here in South Florida since 2005 besides rain from outer bands. We'll see what happens.

awesome, nothing like a bit of population control to help the world along. Africa gets drought, we often get floods when the rivers burst, and america gets hurricanes. Asia gets tsunamis and delhi belly and Australia gets PKC to spread around his own stuff.

Honestly, it's silly to think that natural disasters will just stop happening, it happens and we have to just adapt ourselves, buildings etc to do the best job they can. Sometimes people forget they live in the world, not the world living in them.

Technically, no difference, other than naming (I think). They tend to rotate in opposite directions though, based on which hemisphere they're in. Northern hemisphere = counter-clockwise and Southern hemisphere = clockwise.

yes, stuart is right (scary, i know). cyclone is the same thing; just in the southern hemisphere. it spins the opposite direction because of the Coriolis Effect.

Yah, we've been lucky that no other hurricane has gone by since 2005, but I hate it when some shit storm appears on the radar, and the media blows it the fuck up:

But in reality... anomalously warm SST's in the Atlantic and weakening El Nino point to a higher than normal value. People should realize that it is impossible to predict the exact number of hurricanes (unless you are accuweather and will beat your chest of you are right and fade into the distance, if like usual, you are completely wrong)...but trends towards signalling higher than normal. It boils down to climatological statistics... probabilistic trends...but really...weak el nino and warm sst's that will give way for much more favorable dynamic and thermodynamic conditions in the atmosphere for hurricane development.
