Group of Death

germany & serbia for the top 2 spots

Posted by Zeonfiend on May-29-2010 00:53:

Definitely Germany. Serbia should be a rough fight.

Posted by Ian on Jun-01-2010 19:20:

Manuel Neuer (Schalke), Tim Wiese (Werder Bremen), Hans-Jorg Butt (Bayern Munich);

Dennis Aogo (Hamburg), Holger Badstuber (Bayern Munich), Jerome Boateng (Hamburg), Arne Friedrich (Hertha Berlin), Marcell Jansen (Hamburg), Philipp Lahm (Bayern Munich), Per Mertesacker (Werder Bremen),

Serdar Tasci (Stuttgart); Sami Khedira (Stuttgart), Toni Kroos (Bayer Leverkusen), Marko Marin (Werder Bremen), Mesut Ozil (Werder Bremen), Bastian Schweinsteiger (Bayern Munich), Piotr Trochowski (Hamburg);

Cacau (Stuttgart), Mario Gomez (Bayern Munich), Stefan Kiessling (Bayer Leverkusen), Miroslav Klose (Bayern Munich), Thomas Muller (Bayern Munich), Lukas Podolski (Cologne).

split them out into what I think the positions are as I don't know Tasci or Khedira

Strong squad with some youthfullness too, not sure on badstuber or muller at this level yet but they've played well for Bayern overall.

Neuer is a great gk from what I've seen before.

Germany vs Serbia will be a great matchup, almost as if rivals playing.

I fancy serbia to go thru top of this group..

Posted by woscar on Jun-10-2010 22:10:

Definitely Germany and Serbia. Not sure if Serbia can hold their own against Germany, though. Last World Cup they arrived in great form and got their asses handed to them. Argentina thrashed them 6-0.

Posted by ak87 on Jun-12-2010 02:14:

i definitely think all serbian fans are a little worried about a turn out like 2006

people who follow the team apparently say the chemistry and team build is alot different

Germany - Serbia are my predictions

I think australia's luck has run out after an impressive world cup in 2006. I simply don't see them making that magnificent run again, it's to bad they were robbed by bad reffing back in 06

Ghana apparently suffered a serious injury to one of their key players, not sure which one. But I would say Ghana has as good a chance as serbia to advance with them being inside Africa for the games

Posted by woscar on Jun-12-2010 05:32:

It was Michael Essien.

Man that was some great futbol yesterday.

My Germans were relentless, if they keep up that momentum and the way they were attacking they're going to be unstoppable!

Way to set the bar, Alemania

For real.
Deutschland presented the best futbol so far in the tournament. Podolski is #10 on the team, man did he ever suit that number. Everybody was highly concentrated and determined to win. All the goals were very well structured. Total domination on attack & defence
If they keep this up their automatically in the top 3 or even WC champions. Italiano's played a similar game though a little slower
P.S. Nevermind Serbian's. With they way they played against Ghana, high-school style handball in the penalty box, they will be embarassed by German's.

From the looks of all the openers, it seems the Germans are the only ones who've shown up to play.

Posted by RapidFire on Jun-18-2010 14:19:

what what. i love the fact that we shut up all the idiots (including serbs) who said we played bad against gahana. we played good but conservitive, we just had bad luck. its on now bitchessssss

Posted by FallingMoon on Jun-18-2010 14:24:

I cry

that was by far the most disappointing match to watch. The fuking POS ref's were making bad calls left & right. When Klose got his second yellow and was sent out of the game I was LIVID! He didn't deserve that red, he didn't do SHIT both times.

The Germans didn't play well either. Podolski missed perfect opportunities. That penalty kick was WEAKSAUCE.

Man I am infuriated. Mostly because of those referee's. I must have woken up my neighbors from yelling so much.

By the end it seemed like the Germans were playing scared to even graze the Serbs.

Whatever I am hoping they kick Ghana's ass next week but with Klose out and a squad of 10 I am BEYOND worried

I still love zee Germans no matter what but today was a let down.

thats how i feel about Australia vs Germany, dont get me wrong i think Germany played amazing and would have won regardless but a straight red card that should have been a yellow to our best player and ignoring an hand ball in the box by the German defense among other bad calls all by the ref added up and defeated Australia psychologically

anyway, i was hoping Germany would win this, one because i like there team and two because it makes it even harder for us to get through considering our horrible goal difference

Yeah I know that is what worries me. I was screaming this morning lol my boyfriend kept telling me to relax haha.

I think they need to rethink their formation next match, it was so sloppy today. They looked better vs Australia and this game was like they forgot how to play.

Posted by bluE_Neon on Jun-19-2010 02:29:

I don't know what is happening but all the teams are surprising everyone. It seemed almost as ze Germans didn't have any focus or concentration on the pitch. It will be an interesting ending to this group phase

I don't think Ghana is a "beast of a team" as you say

their first game against serbia I was pretty impressed
but now with further viewing....

theyve played 2 games, their only goals have been through penalty kicks
and they've played 100 minutes out of 180 with a man advantage

frankly I see a weak team, and considering Germany will try to secure their spot in the next round with a win, I personally don't see Ghana advancing out of this group because I think Australia will lose to Serbia

yeah I don't know what happened with that second game...but just because Klose is out I give them a strong chance to at least tie Germany. Hard to underestimate anyone really though, including Australia. Serbia has to be careful and not take them lightly.
