An open letter to TOTA

I'm probably going to get doubly flayed for this, and not undeservedly so...

There is no one else on this board whose posts reek of the elitism of a text-book, staunch techno-purist like you. Have you noticed that nobody cares yet?

Correct on all counts.

My oft-wise wife, after reading my posts from this afternoon, quite pointedly made note of my seemingly incessant need to post deliberately inflammatory comments. And so I find myself both humbled and very sorry for my actions.

I would like to apologise for foisting my anger and frustration on those on this board who have done nothing to deserve it. I grew up in an extremely angry household, and while I like to think that over the years I've made great strides in coming to terms with that part of myself, I obviously have a ways to go before I'm entirely out of the proverbial woods. I still believe that a part of what frustrates me is generational; when I first entered the club and warehouse scene nearly 25 years ago, quite often when you walked into the party you couldn't even figure out where the DJ was. Aside from a handful of names coming out of U.S. cities like Chicago and New York, there were no superstar DJs, just a big dark room and the music. The landscape has changed considerably since then and I've had difficulty accepting that despite my ongoing protests, those changes aren't going anywhere anytime soon. I'm tired of the role I'm currently playing, and can now see the hypocrisy of talking about the original spirit of rave in my event listing when I don't adhere to it myself. From this point forward, I can only endeavour to keep my focus to the more positive and constructive aspects of what I do. Otherwise, as Special K pointed out, no one will want to come to my parties. I'm 41, a lifelong DJ and electronic music lover, and I don't want the remainder of my existence to be a lonely one, where I've managed to isolate and alienate myself from those with whom I should be most closely connected.

Highroller, thanks for having the patience to point out the error of my ways to me while still maintaining a semblance of compassion about it.

I agree, it's hard to let go of our egos and be accepting of criticism or change.

The internet forgets quickly. Talk is cheap (mostly free, in fact).

All you gotta do is do. You can't ask to be regarded highly. It is earned.

What is this in reference to??

Posted by VDub on Jun-03-2010 12:50:

Ok I just found that DEMF review and see where this all stemmed from and I have one question....

Why the FUCK are you apologizing to these little ******s for your own opinion???

Posted by PivotTechno on Jun-03-2010 12:58:

Because it isn't always about me.

This is probably the best attitude to have. You are entitled to your opinions, even if they are negative ones, but it's all about the delivery of those opinions.

anyways. we will see. that's all i have to say.

I think an apology for criticizing hipsters is completely unwarranted. Just stick to your guns dude, it's way more admorable than caving into a bunch of wieners on the internet.

Posted by VDub on Jun-03-2010 14:46:

There you go Pivot. They've accepted you...

Me??

I'm just not going to care about these little kids calling me names...

Posted by rabbitjoker on Jun-03-2010 14:46:

This "open letter" puts the scarcasm detector @ 100%.

Posted by ChemEnhanced on Jun-03-2010 14:48:

whatever happened to respecting your elders

Ooooo now you did it...

They're gonna start calling you names now too...

Posted by jchung52 on Jun-03-2010 14:51:

My fixed post was actually an inside thing with bobby, not directed to you pivot.

I wondered but it was sooo long..

Sarcasm's usually short and sweet...

If it was serious, all kinds of respect lost...
