How do you sort your mp3s??
I recently reorganized my whole mp3 collection (it was getting kind of pathetic... 20gb in one folder). I was just wondering how everyone else keeps their music organized
Here's how mine is set up:
+ Full CDs
|- + Folder for each CD
+ Mixes
|- + Live (recordings of live performances)
|- + Studio (studio-made mixes, i.e. ISOS)
+ Radio
|- + Folder for each station, .m3u in each folder
+ Singles
|- + ~Ambient~ (For all the Ambient singles that don't fit anywhere else)
|- + ~Electronica~ (Trance/Techno singles that don't fit anywhere else)
|- + ~Movies/TV~ (Various tracks from movies and TV)
|- + Folder for each of my favourite artists
+ Unsorted / Incoming (download directory)
+ Vinyls
|- + Folder for each full vinyl rip
I don't have a lot of mp3's yet so I just put them in 2 folders. One for live sets & albums. And the other for singles. Good enough for now.
alphabetically
ok i lie, I just updated it. Folder one has all live sets and full CD's in alp order
folder 2 has all of my vinyl that i personally ripped. For various reasons, which i dont need to go into here. But that is about 500 vinyl (am only half way through). I just recently deleted 56 gigs of old MP3's. Cuz if i like the mp3 that much i buy the vinyl, even if it costs me an arm and a left testicle ( ie..... Ayu M ep......200~~)
Enough from me

trancetastic (i have compilations called trancetastic 1,2,3 etc so songs worthy go here)
vocal trance (songs with lyrics)
want to buy's (killer songs that im going to order on vinyl)
thats it! and i don't keep stuff i dont' like, so i basically delete like 80 percent of the music i download.
i have my mp3s serialized so that my first mp3 ever downloaded is designated as "000001.mp3" and so on. i figure it saves a few bytes per mp3 from filename. only problem is, i kinda lost track of what's what after reaching about a hundred.
i sort them by genre, live sets and full albums
2 folders:
Live sets = 9 gigs
&
Singles = 2 gigs
That's it
Oh, there's also an "Other" directory, but that's got pr0n in it. Don't tell anybody

One Folder for Everything in alphabetical
Music - 3.5 gig
One folder that holds all my mp3's of all genres alphabetically (6 gigs)
I dont sort them , its a terrible mess on my pc , they are everywhere (2000 mp3's) i always use the search function to find a track
That question was posted again a couple of days ago..
Anyway i sort them by genre, alphabetically, simple thing
WEll i sort it by... The type of muzik.. cuz i have more then just TRance.. like rock.. opera.. dance.. claskic.. jokes.. this and that.. rap... freestyle..
and then i also have it sorted by artistes.. if i have more then4 songs.. fromt he same group/artist... Ex. PVD.. Aqua... Modona.. Savwage Garden.. M&M
aswell i have it sorted by events.. and Cds..
NEC.. Trance Energy.. Minstry of Sound.. so ya.. tahts sorta how i have it..

well what I do with my single mp3's (not full vinyls etc) is just put them into one big folder and when I want to listen to my newest ones I, "arrange icons by date" so newsest mp3's come first
-->Trance
----->Livesets
----->Singles
----->Unsorted/Radio Rips
-->Progressive
----->Live Sets
----->Singles
----->Unsorted/Radio Rips
-->Chillout
-->New Wave
-->Techno
-->Drum n' Bass
-->House
I don't want to sort any further, I don't like having to think too much about where a track is @ when I want to find it.
sorting them out caused me to many probs so i just use
d:/tunes!!
Okay Im really sad I spent ages last week sorting mine out and I've still got more to do but his is how I got mine done
Folder for Cd's/Livesets
Inside that folder I got a folder with each Artists name and then inside that folder are all the Mp3's
Folder for Single Tracks
Then I got a folder for each letter of the alphabet and if I have a tune by Ferry Corsten if would be in the "F" fodler and so on
I also got a folder for stuff that I'm currently DL'ing and once it gets to 700MB then I burn a data CD and sort them into the folders mentioned above
SAD, but I can find my shit easy peasy now, and when i sorted everything I found a few sets that I forgot I had
oh and the above method is copyrighted so if I find you using it ur dead
+Albums
+Various
+Livesets.Mixes
+Pop.Dance
+Progressive.Techno
+Trance.2002
+Trance.Club
+Trance.Gold
+Trance.Vocal
I put all the filenames, id3-tags, .nfo files in a database and made a little searchmachine for it.
But ok, i am a nerd with too much time
Sort!?
+ CD's
+ Livesets
- Sensation
- Trance Energy
- Innercity
- Impulz
- Dance Valley
- Other
+ DJ Livesets
+ Radio Rips
+ Trance Traxx
+ Techno Traxx
+ Hardstyle Traxx
+ Club Traxx
and I've got a map for Tracklists also
For a while, I had my music separated according to whatever was going on at the moment:
1. Trance party
2. Chill
3. Sex
4. non-trance parties
Of course, I never hear music out of the sex folder.

Sorting MP3's
Keep them in two folders that are alphabetized by artist: one for albums and DJ mixes and the other for singles. I then make a database of my MP3's so I know which ones have been backed up onto CD-R's and which ones haven't.
Pareez
Each different genre. But for trance I have them all in one folder unless their brand new, in which case they are spread into like 5 different folders in random places lol.
used to just put em in Tunes & Liveset folders, so i got about 20gb like that in alphabetical order. Then newer stuff i organise under the date they are released, so i have lots of directories like 25 06 02 with the tunes i downloaded from that day
