Hooj.com has a promo plan. you buy credits, 5GBP per record.

and you get to select from a list of what you want. I think i might get into it at some time in the future, but not yet.

I seriously don't know ....

but there is a truth in what you said. .... people on TA don't like sharing their knowledge and that is a WRONG attitude

I think platipus has a promo subscription system

there was no attitude there... yea, it looks like it, but there wasnt any attitude intentionally... sorry if it came off that way... i guess i forgot the

You wont get onto any mailing lists unless you play somewhere, on a regular basis...to promote the label and choons you get sent...

Its all about blagging your way in...

I play a weekly Fri and Sat night in my Town...I get sent Positiva, Neo, Negativa and NovaMute...

I had to prove I had the residencies, and that I would promote the labels/tunes (Via Flyers behind me in the Booth/ and name the odd tune to the crowd). Then i had to prove that i was werthy of recieving them....etc. etc.

The main point is...Whats the point of sending you tunes if you have nowhere to play them apart from your bedroom?

man, jdat wasn't talking about you having a wrong attitude, he was talking about the community, that doesn't like sharing it's knowledge with others

yeah, i'm tired of that "master" syndrome that some people have in here...

They think they are the ultimate human beings because they have a couple of promo shit, and they think that they look better to other people by not sharing!

hey, wtf? if we could have all these promo shit, wouldn't we share? But as you see, some people can't afford it or aren't able to get their hands on promos, like me. Here in Greece, we have not that many record stores, let alone vinyls. If a Greek guy wants to buy a promo or something, he'll have to pay double, because there are shippment costs also!

Da f*ck...

Ive been on a promo list with a couple of companys before...
ITs usually done seasonal or even a year if you want. The longer, the more expensive.

To give you an approximation... the price can be anywhere from 200 dollars to 400 dollars, if i remember correctly (i got off of it cause i got some stuff i did not want), for about three months.. dont quote me on this, cause the cost depends more on the label and the division within the label. For instance, bonzai has many other labels within bonzai and each distinct label may be different.

I apologize someone did not respond quicker, is just that i just first saw this post now, as i dont visit this forum that frequent as before (questions here become a bit childish and redundant after a while)... i never have a problem answering any questions, as long as they have not been answered for 1000 times on this forum.

BTW: FOr those who say you have to play at a club before they send to you, that is not true... NO one asks if you play or for proof..

1. I would recommend that you get a list of the labels you like/or are interested in getting promos.
2. Email them, advise them of your interest.
3. Dont say you are NOT a pro dj (its up to you if you want),,, just dont mention it... just tell them you are a DJ, and you are interested in their promo list, you are looking for a price quote.

Trust me you will get a response..
At the time, i got a response from everyone, including from those label who did not have anyone speaking english (they sent me a response half translated, which i really did appreciate!!!)
SOme labels told me that they had no slots available.... Sometimes they have a limit to the people on the list

Hopes that helps, if you have any other questions, feel contact me email me at [email protected]

Peace,
Ricky

Promo = Pre-Release

Am i wrong? i don't think so!

so what the heck? are promos our life? promos will be released somehow in future.

All this "promo"-fuss is worthless and seems a bit boring...

And that "full slots" for the promo lists is totally ghey (i don't say it doesn't exist, it may)! If you pay, you get the stuff you want, so "slots" are useless pieces of shit. But the record companies want to have a "good name" for the crowds by making filty arse restrictions and stuff...

Well, since we don't make something to change the rules, we'll have to comply with them!

wrong!

not all promos go on to get a full release! i have a couple of tunes that are limited to a few hundred! people want those tunes no one else has and thats why some want on the promo lists cause they wont be able t get them otherwise!

as stated 2 posts up, not all promos are released on a label
and the promos of tracks come out months before the track is released on the actual label...

that's why you see big name djs hammering tons of new tracks that don't get released for awhile

its hard to survive in the dj'ing business if you're playing the same stuff as everyone else

Learn and earn how to get your own vinyl Donkey dude.

I take offense to that for alot of people on this site. Like people OWE you information, ahahaha

DJ'ing is about getting records any way you can, blowing the place away with shit no one expects, or knows. quit trying to take the easy way, LOSER.

Isn't it past your bed time??
