2010.06.26 [LA] INSOMNIAC: EDC Saturday After Party feat. BENNY BENASSI @The Music Box Hollywood

Benny Benassi was born in Milan in 1967 and then grew up in the provincial town of Reggio Emilia, Italy. He started dj-ing when he ws still at school and has been producing with his cousin Alle Benassi for about ten years at Off Limits studios. His first as a producer was with the track "I feel so fine" by KMC feat. Dhany which went to n1 in the UK club charts in 2001.

The following year, working under the BENNY BENASSI presents THE BIZ trademark, Benny and Alle came up with "Satisfaction" and in one fell swoop ravaged the dancefloors and dominated sales charts round the world. The album Hypnotica" followed. In the meantime Benny and Alle produced more melodic dance music under the Benassi Bros. banner. The charts of half the planet gave them thumbs up.

The Benassis have also remixed artists such as Outkast, David Guetta, Moby, Goldfrapp, Paul Oakenfold, Faithless and Public Enemy, to name but a few.

Benny has won tons of prizes and awards around the world and continues to tour the five continents with his unique style, once described as "electro, sort of house-tec, dirty and cool, sweaty and smooth".

In 2008 Benny and Alle won a Grammy Award for his remix of Public Enemys Bring the noise.
The new album Rock n Rave contains tracks featuring Black Box, Farenheit, Dino Lenny, Mia J, Public Enemy, Channing and Iggy Pop.

His own productions are released through Energy Productions in Italy and Ultra in U.S.A. At the same time, Benny talent scouts for his own brand new label, Pump-kin, designed to create space for young djs and producers of electronic club music.

this starts @ 2AM then? or what?

Posted by able.h on Jun-16-2010 23:25:

Ha! I was right all along, the reason why EDC ends at 2am this year is because Insomniac will be having their OFFICIAL after party.. sucks that the after party is NOT trance

Does anyone realize that Benny has a poor draw? No one on here orthat i have met says, "oh, i wanna see Benny!" Same for Pop, everyone was asking why he was even there much less playing the afterparty!!

poor draw from trance fanatics. he's one of those guys who is set for life.

He's actually booked to play in santa barbara on a wednesday in september, pretty big for sb, personally no biggie since im always off in sd, la, or sf checking the big acts.

But at a show like that he isn't the draw, at EDC and Pop Armin or Deadmau5 are the big draw, Benny is just there.
When he plays club shows does he have big turnout?

YES!!!

Bennie would play at Vanguard once or twice a year and the place would be PACKED! The POP after party at Ruby Skye had a HUGE line down the street. But that could be either because of Bennie playing or the club was open for after hours.

When I have seen him, the place has always been packed as fuck.

Posted by Tosh on Jun-17-2010 02:55:

Well his set at Pop was so good!
I just get tired of seeing him so often!
I saw picks of the line at Ruby, CRAZY! Then again 50,000 people wewre looking for somewhere to go at 2am...
Anyway, I will see him at EDC, not likely I'd pay more than $15 to see him AGAIN in the same day. $10 maybe

Benny has a strong draw. I thought he did play trance no? last year at EDC?

Posted by jimji1005 on Jun-17-2010 02:58:

No ticket price yet?

If price is ride I will be there, if I can secure a ride lol

my first ever visit to ruby skye was a show of his oct 2007, the lines were massive. luckily we did not have to wait in those lines. awesome night. show was pretty sick too. hmm maybe i should check his SB show.

You could put a turd to play at vanguard and it would be packed. I saw this dude twice, once at vanguard and at EDC last year.. this sets don't impress me...weakness. People are still on his sack because of his older tracks. afterparty... methanfeds.. anyone?(sarcasm)

Tentatively the doors are at 1am.

Artwork, ticket info and more should be announced tomorrow.

he does have a draw. its funny how it works with top 10 artists. even when people dont like them, they still go thinking the set might be different and point to the votes received. the djmag pull is huge with people in almost making them think their own opinion might be flawed haha

Don't forget benassi got pretty well known in the mainstream with Satisfaction. That's given him plenty of pull amongst less EDM-oriented folk who still might want to hit up a techno club from time to time.

we need a party bus to pick us up from EDC.

Posted by MelBeat on Jun-17-2010 16:48:

Benassi is one of the few DJs that got Vanguard so packed, parking was sending people away if they didn't already have tickets.

Posted by 72hrpartyanimal on Jun-17-2010 17:43:

good promotions also helped too (Enter Jeremy Reese)

Posted by able.h on Jun-17-2010 17:47:

hey guys doesn't matter if the guy draws a lot of crowd, but to me personally he sounds like those Vuvuzela trumpets at the world cup match

or even worse when he bumps up the BPM to 140 it goes like this:

Oh somebody make a remix out of his Satisfaction with Vuvuzela drums pleasee

Posted by jimji1005 on Jun-18-2010 00:21:

Vuvuzela = death. Think it might be the most hated item right now. I can't hear shit when I watched the game last time. and its not sporadic sound, its continuous. Like they all know when to start and stop so the next person would chime in at the right moment. Annoying.

Posted by RyanVice on Jun-18-2010 06:52:

Really!?!?

Benazzi, Chuckie and Afrojack!?!

Thanks, I'll pass.
