Cryophonik, Thanks man for your input!
I have a Yamaha EZ-250i keyboard that has light up keys and it has help me learn to play some awesome tracks like Robert Miles children and now i want to move on the jazz and learn to play the lady from ipanema! (I think it cam be a good EDM song)
Also have been learning the blues because its just so easy, any one can learn it!
ergh. See it'll only help you learn and become generalisable knowledge if you actually understand what you're doing. Otherwise you're just learning to press the light up keys.
What you're aiming to do is learn about scales, modes and chords, which is knowledge you can then generalise back to trance. What you AREN'T aiming to do is learn how to press light up keys, or press keys in a certain pleasing combination. It depends on how much you can develop your understanding based on your learning of jazz or blues.

i will say hearing trance will help you play better trance because it will hardwire some key elements into your brain then you can put a spin on it plus beer will help
it wont help u making trance. it will help u make better music generally though but u will probably not make good trance after listening to other types of music. trance is about repeating monotone, rhythmic, atmospheric sounds until it "entrance" you, which no other genre can "learn" you as it doesnt get done in other genres. the more u influent/poison trance by other genres the less trance it will be.
I've learned a lot by entering remix contests and remixing other people's work - particularly if the song originated from a style outside my norms. I agree with listening to Jazz but Classical and Folk also have some ideas which translate over to trance.

Hi there,
Nice to see a stong presence in this thread.
I'll throw in my two cents.
I think both ideas you suggested would really benefit your productions as they would elevate your knowledge of music theory. As an alternative, have you ever thought about enrolling on a music course of some kind? You'll find that you'll gain a level of music and production knowledge that will make your productions noticeably more creative, if not better.
There are many music production courses available but if you decided to go down that route i'd recommend you look into Point Blank's online courses. They actually run an online course in making Trance which you might find of interest. Have a look at their course brouchre:

Either way, I wish you all the best in your productions!!!
everything helps i'm planning to make hardstyle and a claassical composition and im sure it will help me in breakdowns and in energetic tracks.
Same as if you try house you'll develop your rythm sense a lot of producers played in a band or the piano, sax etc...
I took a chord progression from a melodic metal track 4 example... being wide is win
