Be Cool! R.I.P / Car Wish List

My car has been the best car ever. Always has been a reliable car, fast when needed, never breaking down on me, a great Nissan. However, its time has come and today when I was driving in the morning to lab it died on me midway through traffic.

R.I.P THUNDERPUSSY 1995-2010

So, out with the old and in with the new. I want to get a new car that is (in order of importance):

- Relatively Fast
- Cheap
- Preferably Small
- Japanese/German/Whatever just not American

Let me know what your pick would be! I'm already making a list of cars I think would be good but I'd like to see what the c0r thinks!

Just get something bullet-proof. You know, just in case the border patrol starts shooting.

GTI is best in class consistently. If that's in your price range go for it!

Yeah.. So far I'm thinkin:

Nissan Sentra/Altima
Honda Civic
Mini Cooper
VW GTI

Still workin on my list.. I need to make up my mind since I need the car ASAP/this weekend.

Seriously, among those the GTI is the absolute winner if you're looking for a little fun in your drive, performance-wise as well as practicality. It does have the worst gas mileage though I believe (still not bad).

Coopers are fun to buzz around in too but might be too small for your everyday use.

Civics are of course reliable, but kinda bland/no-frills.

Sentra-R would be more of a GTI type level of performance. If you're even considering the base Sentra, def pick another as you can do better in that price range.

Altimas are alright but no frills as well, but more frills than civic overall.

Yes.

And I'm telling you from experience.

Im thinking you dont get the Megane 250 RS over there which is a shme since its probably among the best hot hatches out there right now (for cheap, small, fast and fun, euro hatches are the way to go), but for the same money you can probably get your hands on a Focus RS and i would go for that over a GTI any day of the week if those were my two choices.

update: i think VW GTI will be out of my price range simply bc i know its a bit expensive to maintain..

any other suggestions??

GTI in a heartbeat!

or a golf TDI, you'll get amazing fuel economy, you'll fill up half as much as you're used to.

I don't know how it is in the States, but I spend like $800 a year on maintaining mine. And that includes going to the shop 6 times for tune-up once every 5000 km. I suggest you investigate further.

Sidenote: VW covers all maintenance during the lease...if you lease. Just another option. But considering you had your previous car for so long, I'm guessing it's not what you wanna do.

Posted by woscar on Jun-19-2010 21:54:

Fuck, so fast?

What did you get?

Posted by yukii on Jun-19-2010 22:00:

Lol, dude I REALLY needed a car bad because I'm busy going to school/lab/work/dance class/errands and there's no way you can walk/use your bike in this hell city..
Transportation is equivilant to that of Mexico's and I can't borrow Nathan's car because he is out of town & took his keys -__- so I had been desperate.

Anyway, I couldn't go all out and get a VW GTI since I'm still in school and need my money, I can't spend a lot of money. I got a great deal with a Toyota Scion:

[same color- i would've prefered white but i can't really choose]
