Why does Ruby Sky receive all the love...?
Why...when it comes to clubs in the city does Ruby Skye receive all the love/attention and places like 1015 (which IMO is a superior venue) play second fiddle?
Thoughts comments welcome...

I think Ruby is superior to 1015 hands down. 1015 needs a damn lot of work in the main room. Those mini investment touchups didnt add anything in my opinion. Its the room itself that needs work. Its like a darkroom for a movie set or what not. Nothing there. Ruby skye on the other hand might not be the best dj setup but at least feels like a nightclub and not a dark room with a dj. You can see the investment in there - new or old.
For me I prefer Ruby because is looks nice, is pretty clean, and there is no hip hop room!!!
The crowd is so different between the two clubs!

and dashing back to Hotel Frank for a little goose works out quite well, consedering you can be out and back in literally 4 min.

First, this reply is just me as a fan.
1015 is prob the best venue for new age, cutting trance and just edgier stuff. DJs like J00F best fit here versus other venues.
Mighty is prob the best bigger club (though prob the smallest out of the ones I'm thinking) that provides a largely intimate feel. It tends to be a place where very special sets are heard. I wish I heard more prog house DJs there, to be honest. I think Markus was at some of his best when playing at Mighty too.
Ruby is prob the best venue for the big-room DJ w/o going overboard. Just right now at least. DJs like Armin and Tiesto prob fit here. Best sound, very open room, lighting can be awesome with the right guy running lights, better VIP service, in-and-outs on 21+ nights to take a break when the crowd is crushing, etc.
This all said, I agree with others and it's something I've said for years. 1015's main romo needs a complete rehaul. They updated some things like adding the balconies, but the feel of the room is the exact same as it was in 2002. It can have some awesome lighting and the lights they've added in the past couple years have helped, but agian..it's just updating the room. It needs a completely fresh feel and look. Like with the position of the balconies, I'd even consider finding a way to switch the DJ booth to the other side to you have a vantage point from all angles. Something. The venue has so much potential and I'll always want the best. I'd love for the place to get back into the position it was in the late 90s and early 2000s. It's truly the venue that got me into the club scene hardcore and I will always have great respect for it. This all said, even if they did redo the main room there's another whole issue, and it's similar to another issue Circus in LA has that many people don't openly discuss on here and has been holding the venue back and may continue to hold the venue back. Just be thankful 1015 has someone who is so passionate about what he does and trying to do the best he possibly can over at 1015 in Taj, who has been doing his best he can, given the challenges in front of him, to bring DJs we might not see otherwise to SF.
Temple is a lost cause, iMO.

This reply isn't about the smaller venues like slide, vessel, c#, etc...just the more major clubs. And I'm trying to be fair in this response, and not biased. Almost didn't respond because people will skew anything I say the wrong way as being biased.

If it were 2000 still the mainroom would be awesome for the time. But times have changed. 1015 did a great job of updating the other rooms, though it seems upstairs/VIP room gets moved around a bit still.....but the most important room has been largely ignored. Re-shaping the bar and adding a stone wall with a waterall that I don't think worked more than a month doesn't do it. And balconies don't mean crap when the center side of it is OVER the DJ instead of infront and in viewpoint of it.
Still the best DJ booth around, but as a whole it's just disfunctional given the position of it in relation to the balconly.
And I still have yet to go in and be blown away by the sound in a good 7+ years. It can be clean, yes, but not RICH (powerful/fullfilling/deep bass). Loud does not equal poweful, either. That said, they are in a bind there because if they had full on proper sound with amazing highs, mids, and lows, sure the neighbors would be compolaining a lot about the noise. I haven't been there in awhile, but I do remember times when epopel would say the sound is top-notch and I'd be there within a week or two and I'd be like are you serious? The sound hasn't been "RICH" there in FOREVA....and I haven't heard of any new system being put into place.

It's been clear you've hated pretty much everything outside a couple things the past couple years. And those couple of things are the new things you've come across.
And that's OK. Just saying even if what you say is actually true, the jaded opinion you've had on pretty much everything outside of c# and Holden makes it easy to think the opinion you speak is easily because of that. You even took the time to say that when I made it clear when I wasn't talking about the smaller venues, which would obviously not have a sound system that would be turned up as loud. And it would be easier to tune a system well for a smaller room versus large open rooms.
Still love the rizo though! Don't take what I said personally. We all have gone through that period.

though im also a bit burned out so im very selective what gigs to catch yet im still very diverse/open -- lee tonight, holden, 00db, tool and chemical bros soon. but its really not everything outside of c# and holden. i havent even gone to the c# since end of janaury for cassy. maybe july 2nd as i do miss it! ive mentioned before supperclub was pretty good last time due to bringing of funktion one. i would never have favored 222 before the renovation. it was ghetto before but now its just in a ghetto spot that i dont mind yet as its an awesome venue with constant great talent, service and staff! i personally love 1015 than all of these venues though! its like a second home thanks to taj and why i try to stop by whenever im in the city to say hello to friends and acquaintances even when i dont care for the headliner 
i don't do that for any other venue as much as i like their setup more nowadays.| quote: |

Great points.
To be honest, i even avoid 1015 and try to catch the artist if I can with a trip to a different city lately if i can afford the trip. The above points nailed it. When the crowd isnt there, nothing about main room helps lift the vibe and or create one to support the dj. Sure, we all go the music - or most of us on here do, but be honest with yourself, when the place is less than half packed, and the room doesnt really have a lively atmosphere, the night isnt as memorable. The set may be, but not the overall satisfaction. And that is the difference. That oomf is missing.
The circle light thing behind the dj really isnt that great. Remove that and use the entire wall for something. A screen, LED wall, etc. Projecting on the side wall doesnt do anything at all. And the two screens on the top corners dont add much. I would remove those and focus on the space behind the dj.
I would repaint the main room. Add some color to it - grey, red, etc. Also add more to the walls. Some lighting fixtures, candles, drapes, etc.
The balconies didnt add anything i think. I think it comes down to the lighting/color again - add some wall fixtures or decor to make them stand out more.
The bar could use some lighting. Add some glass and led lights or what not. Give it some blue or green, etc. Again, break apart the room with color.
basically it comes down to main room design. it really is just a dark room no matter how many lights you have with the ceiling center piece. A perfect test would be go in there with no lights but a flashlight. Does the place look like something you can use for a haunted house or a dark lounge? With ruby skye, with lights off and just a flashlight you can tell its a club inside.

i totally see eye to eye with rizo, i went thru the same phase where i partied non stop in SF for years and then hit my mid/late 20s and it all just got to be bullshit for the most part. either a lame crowd, shitty sound, jackass security, etc. and this is not just 1015, hell i'd say more so at RS and other clubs. then i started hanging with friends that had mansions and just threw our own private parties and do whatever we want, when we want, that's what kinda took me away from the club scene. i still go out from time to time though when i think it's gonna be a good night, like j00f at 1015 or like tonight with burridge at 1015. it's always great to see all my old friends too. i never understood why it was so hard to get the sound right at a club either. maybe you're right Dave, it may take fancy decor to bring people in these days. personally i don't care if it's a dark dungeon with a few lights, as long as the sound is kicking and there's an awesome crowd i'm down, although i realize i'm probably the minority. the water wall thing didn't work because it was so dark it grew algae and had to be turned off. oh well hopefully i'll see some of you guys tonight and it will be a good time!
