Review: John '00' Fleming @ Vola (18.06.2010)
I guess J00F literally killed all of you as it's 20 to 5 the next day and this is the first attempt at a review.
I just woke up and my hangover sucks! Got to the club around quarter to 12 and was given a double shot of vodka right off the bat. Chaased it down with a rev and 5 more revs followed.. I enjoyed every minute of J00f's set. I think i was soo drunk and must of popped smunky's collar a dozen times and attempted the swamper shuffle towards the end of the night. Thanks to puretrance and vola for putting together another great night and gladly no power outtage during the set. Oh and thanks robin for the doublevodka .. i remember chillin at the beginning and then ( scene missing ) ??? hope you are ok man!

I highly doubt John will play at Guv any time soon since he is not a big fan of that place anymore. So Vola it is then.

Definite good times last night. JOOF always brings his A game, and in the past 8yrs or so, I'm still yet to hear a disappointing set from him
TUNE OF THE NIGHT!!

Oh man... never have I been so tired when attending a night like this, but never have I been so glad I decided not to bail. That was epic.
Aerodromme played a great opener, and J00F was AMAZING. WOW.
I hope someone got some video!
I'm really not sure how to reply to this e-mail I received lol!
"Hello
Is there a reason why dj John OO Fleming played mainly dj jams with no melody as opposed to mixed Trance songs. There is so much great Trance music out there I don't understand why so many djs in this city play so little of it. Instead they play a 3 hour dj jams with little or no melody.
Maybe they do this because they think that that is what the crowd likes. I think they are wrong.
You can chose to ignore this message if you want but hear me out. Pay attention to what people are listening to at home and what they have in there music or ipod collection. It's a lot better than what most djs are playing in the clubs in this city. It's a shame. This means that people would love to listen to better stuff and there is no outlet for it.
I sent a similar comment to Circa and no one replied so I don't expect you to because you might not like what I have to say. As we all know Circa is not longer in existence and overall it was a good club.
I am not telling you this to make you feel bad. I am saying this because if I continue to be chronically dissapointed in this city then I will not bother going out anymore. Maybe I will create my own party. I took dj classes and when I have the money to buy dj equipment to practice on I will buy it.
I have to say that your acoustics are far better than Guvernment or Circa. So thumbs up to your sound engineers."

and stick to his lame cheesy lineups at Guv week after week. I love the noobs in this scene.

| Originally posted by v-vaughn I loved being in the crowd with all the lights turned off (I usually find Vola a bit too bright). J00f is an absolute master, its always a treat to watch him spin. He just brings the intensity in the room to another level. It's also amazing to hear him drop a crazily dark psy-trance track and start grooving behind the decks with a huge grin on his face. He clearly loves what he's doing and it shows. Cannot wait to see him back again soon!!!! ![]() |
BRING HIM BACK ASAP.
Arrived around 12:30 to catch some of Angelo's set. Absolutely loved the stuff he was playing as I walked in right when Marc O'Tool - Passenger was playing. Sounded great on Vola's system. This was my second time at Vola and the volume level was far more enjoyable providing a crisper sound overall. J00F came on around 1 and was quite relentless for the duration that I stayed for. I have never been a fan of full on psy so I can't comment on J00F's last 2 hours but the choons he was belting out were hectic. Unfortunately, the sound cut out (power outage?) at one point which killed the energy that J00F had just brought up but it didn't take him long to get going again. Overall I enjoyed the first 2 hours more as I like the prog-psy that Angelo was playing. Cheers brother can't wait to hear your entire set!
Took off around 4 as J00F's full on psy was a bit too much for me to handle and my legs were paralyzed after dancing for 3 hours. Overall a great night and well worth it. One thing I loved is that I had a massive amount of space to spread out and dance and it never reached sauna like temperatures. Great work Oz, Pure Trance, Vola and anyone else involved who brought a legend back to this city!
Cheers!
8/10
My first time at Vola! Unfortunately, had to leave at 3 AM since my gf had a li'l too much to drink, lol.
About Vola: Really liked the place. The temperature was perfect (ie sometimes Guv gets unbearably hot...).
About the music: My experience with trance is very limited, so I'm having trouble with this. I realllly liked the limited amount I heard j00f, and Aerodromme, but was that actually TRANCE they were playing? My experience (at ASOT 450, PVD at Space Miami, other random shows at guv, gf playing Armin, Corsten, etc) is that there's almost ALWAYS a dominant kickdrum every beat and dominant snare every second beat. A melody builds up, a snare roll ensues, then that same melody plays with the said kick drum and snare, then breakdown. I never really liked any of those shows (it's like dancing to a ticking clock, tick-tock, tick-tock, drum-snare), save for a few good breakdowns. And vocals, eww :P
But this had basslines, repetitive elements that build and fade, rhythms, music I was able to get into! It lived up to his essential mix! Maybe it's because it's "psytrance"? I don't know too much about the genre. I'll have to download the whole set and give it a listen.
