-- *trance going progressive*
ok so theres all this talk of trance going progressive and if you were an idiot like me you wouldve thought this was a good thing(no offense to those who like it) but now that i know what progressive is i definitely do not want that to happen. but i think that even if it does go progressive that it wont stay that way for long cause i think that can grow old much quicker. cause the truth is people want music with energy and for me progressive just doesnt have the energy im looking for. i know a lot of you out there like progressive so i want to hear some opinions on this. ps- and i shouldnt have to say this but lets keep these comments constructive. this is not for bashing if your gonna bash on someone do it somewhere else
thanks and xoxoxox to all.
i agree with ya
progressive is good to an extent.. but personally... i like the uplifting/energetic side of trance as well.. and i would be very upset if it ALL went progressive..
but it hink there will always be those out there producing the uplifing/energetic trance some of us love..
i mean.. i can't see ppl like Airscape or Rank 1 going full on progressive..
but yea.. i think theres the good things to both genres =)
Speakin as the biggest prog-head in the world...
*bash* * bash*
I fuckin love progressive and i dont think theres much better, but i think it would be truly a shame for everything else to dissappear. I dont think it will, simply because trance has been renowned for its diversity, and if the rest were to melt into progressive we would lose that diversity. Again, a lot of ppl still dont know what constitutes a progressive tune.. progressive can have as much energy, if not more energy than your uplifting stuff (which is getting boring for me now, its been the same thing recycled for a year now) if u want truly energetic progressive trance, take a listen to uncle Timo, or get the new Gatecrasher album
It is such a wide kind of music with much more variety in it which is why i think its taking over from the (same old) uplifting. Here are some pretty energetic progressive TYPE tunes (prog spans over a lot of genres, tribal, trance, house, techno etc etc)
Corvin Dalek - Punds & Penz (Deutsche Mark Mix)
Mad Dogs - Better Make Room
Smoked - Metro (US Mix) *thx to infinity*
Satoshi Tomiie - Love In Traffic
LostIt.com - Animal
Agneli & Nelson - Vegas (Fear & Loathing Mix)
Ill stop now.. heheh, but seriously if uve heard the right prog at the right place, u wouldnt be sayin it doesnt create the energy
but then again, each to his/her own
Peace
oh yeah well take this *swift kick in the ass* :o)
yeah there is good progressive, just not most of it. hehehe. actually ive been trying to get love in traffic for a while and cant find it
i really want to hear it. damn.
I personally think trance will never go all progressive. I think trance has died a bit of late, i blame producers like Agnelli and Nelson for constantly churning out commercial pap. Trance will always be around in the form its in today, its just progresive trance may have have a slight edge in airplay and such like. Lost it.com - animal TUNE.
Favourite trance tune of the moment.
Ivan - Gorki new remix.
mmmmmmmmmm.....progressive
I fuckin love progressive now sooooo much! I have been going to a club in Toronto (System Soundbar) almost every friday in the past few months, seeing such talent as Parks and Wilson, Danny Howells and Breeder...not to mention their sick residents, Scaife and De-koze (who is no longer a resident
)
I have also been listening to nothing but progressive...with names like those above, but also Warren, Diggers, Oliver Lieb, Steve Lawler. My friend and I were talking about it last night. I said how progressive is so simple, yet it is so intelligent it makes you want to move.
It is hard for me as a dj right now to figure out what I want to spin!
I love my epic...and that is what I am used to playing out. However, I have began to start off my sets with the more techy side of the trance genre...I dunno..maybe I will be playing full blown progressive sets soon?
I love my epic, but progressive is taking me over!
Peace,
Steve
My arse hurts now..
Eyes if u wanna hear it, go on yahoo some time ill stream it u
its fuckin class. Its all very subtle.. only energetic if u are in the right frame of mind
u should find it on napster (just search for 'love in' in the track name feild)
It makes me laff sometimes how a lot of u say u hate prog (im talkin about the last time we had a thread similar to this) and yet u continue to love the new crasha album, and DJ's like nick warren, sasha, darren emerson, lucien foort etc etc... me thinks some of u are confused
OK if u need one tune to change ur mind about prog being boring, get Humate - Choose Life (Original Mix) if u havent already..
Peace
Progressive
I started off as pure trance man, but over the last year i have been getting really into the progressive side, at first it was progressive house and i was happy to see it spreading over to the trance side. Some of the sets i have seen this last year by parks and wilson, burridge and richards and people like the excellent steve lawler & dave seaman showed that progressive does not have to be all deep and dark. Like someone said earlier progressive can be very diversive. But the steve lawler and seaman sets that start off nice and deep but by the end have the place lifting.
Put it this way there will always be your trance and euro trance ...but if there wasnt for these diversities there would be alot of repetiveness in the trance seen with too many dj/producers just remaking the same thing. But theres nothing to worry about Trance and euro-trance is as good as it ever was and progressive is just adding another level for those who want to go on a journey
This is what i don't understand..
Why does everyone here fell that progressive and trance are mutually exclusive and can't coexist with one another..now maybe its true that progressive is becoming popular right now, but i think its wrong to say that just because progressive is the "flavor of the month" that uplifting trance is gone...I think that uplifting remixers will always put an uplifting spin on a song no matter what.. just as the more progressive remixers will do their thing...now as for the Dj's they will play progressive but at the same time uplifting/epic trance will always have a place, just because its not as popular doesn't mean its gone..
Damn alarmists!
LOL
Mizzzzz
word mizz
nothing is dying here, prog is just opening peoples eyes right now to something diffrent...and most of us like it. prog is nothing but energy..
I think a good deal of it has to with volume actually. Uplifting trance has a great disparity between buildups and climaxes. Prog doesn't really have this as much. When you crank it tho...well I think you get the idea. Try it. And I will use this as an excuse to plug the new Kleinenberg album again. TRY IT. CRANK the ******! peace.
it has to be said, there are a lot of dj's/producers switching to the more progressive side now.. even the uplifting/epic god of the dex tiesto is playin prog now. i think this is solely because they are getting tired of the same old sound, and progressive offers a newer fresher feel to it
and yeah, the louder the better!!!!
peace
how about...
how about a happy medium......listen to some uplifting at times and some progressive at other times, accoringly to the mood you're in!!!!! I've caught mylesf preferring progressive over uplifting in the last few weeks, and it's a good thing i had previously burned some progressive trance on cd's just in case i'd listen to them in the future - which i do now.
I think listening to one type of trance gets really old, repetititive and boring, since i listen a lot. That's why i spice it up with variety, so i can still love all my trance.
Give other styles a try, i did and it worked out really great, and gave me more music to choose from...

trance and prog simliar
Good discussion for sure, you can tell that a lot of you guys are taking this personally and are afraid that prog will take over. First of all, the god of all epic trance Tiesto is not really playing prog, he's playing some tracks, but man you don't get more layered and melodic then tiesto. Even these new sets of him at Dance Department are very far from progressive my friends. He tends to mix some prog tunes in with huge epic ones, or some tracks that are a bit of both, my fav track which incorporates melodic and prog would have to be Max Graham's Airtight.
I personally love layered, melodic epic trance, and I can't see it leaving anytime soon, I mean can you picture Ferry Corsten spinning prog? heh I doubt it dudes. Even Paul Van Dyk has toned down his angel trance style, but still spins a nice kind of trance which is a good mix.
On another note I've noticed that the female vocals are slowly disapearing, cuz either people think their tacky and cheap or whatever. But those used to be a trance staple, heh, insert woman vocal NOW!
ANYWAYS, I think the prog dj's out there are kicking ass, I really like Gene Carbonell and the god of Canadian DJ's, mr. Graham. =)) Prog is soo fun to dance too, trance is all about feeling like your in heaven or in a dream. Very diff music.
(ok that post was all over the place, sorry it's soo big, lol)

Trance has already gone progressive. It is very rare now to find a nice melodic, uplifting vocal track that isnt a horrid, or already done crap euro sound. Trance will never fully go progressive because progressive has been around for years and trance is still here. Trance has just adapted to the new sound.
Progressive
Progressive ranges from the deeper, minimal, bass heavy (often but not always boring) stuff to the type of Progressive I prefer that almost borders on Epic/Uplifting. If not done properly, a Progressive House/Trance set can easily be very boring. I know I've heard my share of boring progressive sets lately. I think DJs that play a deeper style of progressive have to be more skillful and more careful to be able to craft a masterful set. (It can be done, it's just a little harder)
If it's done properly, like I have recently heard from Max Graham and Vancouver trance duo Bajwa & Dale Anderson (who have just started producing under the name Bipolar), a Progressive set can be very powerful and exciting. Max's style is closer to the Epic/Uplifting scale of Progressive, while Bajwa & Dale Anderson's style is on the Deeper end of the Progressive Scale. When I saw Bajwa & Dale Anderson I was very impressed with how well their set flowed and progressed from track to track. It was not quite as exciting as Max's style but it was so very fluid, entrancing and masterfully done. At a party it would be a good way to start off the night and lead into a more upbeat progressive style.
Personally, my favourite type of trance music at parties right now is Full-On Fast and Powerful Goa/Psy Trance. This is another type of trance that sounds SO much better at full volume, since there are so many layers in the music.

PROGRESSIVE
---
Not -all- progressive trance is boring like you make it out to be. There is -tons- of pumping 'energy filled' progressive. Maybe *you* just haven't heard it.(Check out some of the Global Underground collections to hear some wicked progressive.) or maybe progressive just isn't your thing. But I definately don't think progressive is gonna 'grow old', hopefully this is just a beginning.
-Peace,
