NHL Draft/Offseason Moves thread.

this is my thread, no one else must post in it.

it looks like a lot of players will be on the move!!!!!

halak! that one surprised me. got something up your sleeves?

Draft wise, i'm not surprised we went russian first, hasn't hurt us in the past.... Leafs going swedish too didn't surprise me. I look forwards to trying to work out where people are when the new season begins lol

lars eller is a good prospect, and with our cap situation we could not afford to throw 5 million at a goalie.

eller is nhl ready too. he is projected to be a good 2nd line 2 way center. He should be centering our 3rd line this year.

We got a big d man in Tinordi (even traded up in the draft to get him.) People say he is like a robyn reghr....we will tell in a few years. It is going to be really exciting to see PK Subban play his first full year and win the calder trophy. I'm pretty sure it is his to lose.

seguin in boston still makes me upset.

brian burke lol.

Posted by Ian on Jul-03-2010 21:42:

I'm kinda underwhelmed by the lack of action thus far. Nothing has surprised me yet, which is a surprise in itself

Posted by Schadenfreude on Jul-05-2010 15:53:

not me.

most teams need to sort out their cap situation, as well as need to assess the true value of the assets they want to go after on the open market as to not overpay. Salary cap = less random chance signings (unless you happen to be glenn sather the king of act befgore think)

i'm so incredibly hyped by granlund, i have absolutely no choice but to become a wild fan

though i guess it could be worse, my favorite d in the whole world plays there, koivu ain't that bad, just underrated. and their goalie is a co-owner of my team. and i guess you could call minnesota hockey country.. well, more than many others.

hmm.. didn't they also buy latendresse*?

*yes jay, i'm anxiously awaiting a pun for that

Posted by Schadenfreude on Jul-11-2010 00:59:

i like your flag bam....not only is it relevant to my interests but it is also relevant to my interests.

Posted by Ian on Jul-11-2010 08:06:

I'm pissy. I've missed out on the chance to see Taylor Hall for the Oilers by about 3 days.

Posted by Schadenfreude on Jul-12-2010 00:19:

i'm pissed because i still have 3 months to wait before there is a real sport on tv again.

Posted by Ian on Jul-12-2010 07:32:

this is the problem being canadian There's plenty of cricket and football until then. And golf As a hockey fan esp of montreal you should be used to that now

Posted by Schadenfreude on Jul-12-2010 16:06:

2 of your teams did not make the playoffs, and your 3rd was upset by us.

i just thought of it too, the habs knocked out bam's team...which leads me to the conclusion that they read this thread and don't like the people that post in it.

Sergei Gonchar going to Ottawa is a nice pickup for the Senators.

Let's see where Kovalchuk lands.

Posted by Schadenfreude on Jul-15-2010 21:43:

kovalchuk fucked up...no one is going to give him what atlanta offered him last year.

lol.

Posted by Renzo on Jul-19-2010 19:29:

Kovalchuk has signed a 17-year deal with Jersey.

17?

Posted by Schadenfreude on Jul-19-2010 19:40:

sneaky sneaky move to work around the salary cap and make him a trade able asset if it does not work out.

lou lamoriello is a very smart gm. this way kovy gets his big bucks with a very low cap hit even after he retires and they can sign zach parize next year when his contract is up.

expect stuff like this to be banned in the next collective bargaining agreement...but for now, excellent move and use of the loophole.

when they buy kovy out when he retires, only half of his salary will count towards the cap and it will be almost nothing.

so if the bargaining agreement comes into play, what about all the things that will basically contradict it? Will they be forced into renegotiating it to fit into the new rules, or will all the previous ones be allowed to slip?

once a contract is signed it has to be approved by the nhl. They have no choice to approve it, as at the moment it does not break any rules.

everything must be approved by the nhl before it becomes official. For now, the deal looks good. Expect other teams to copy this recipe for franchise players while they still can. This way you can build a winner now and worry later.

Chicago could have learned from this.

Posted by Ian on Jul-19-2010 20:23:

yeah. but we'll see how they go. I've not seen a team 'rebuild' that much after a win, though if they see it as a way to sort the cap out. All I know is that so long as Theodore goes back to the chipmunks, we might win something this year

Posted by Schadenfreude on Jul-19-2010 20:55:

theodore is way too expensive when you have 2 good young prospects.

goalies are not worth much on the open market this year, but prospects are still cheaper.

kovy has never been a winner, but lamoriello has 3 rings to his name and always keeps his team in the hunt.
