For sale: Virus TI Desktop (have mercy on me, mods)

Greetings, brethren.

Okay, I know that there's a dedicated forum for selling equipment, but we all know it's devoid of activity. Hopefully some folks here can vouch for my trustworthiness. I'm sorry in advance for the crime I'm about to committ. Please go easy on me, Diginut.

I'm looking to sell my Virus TI Desktop because I need the funds to purchase a couple of new instruments. I've had it for two years, but I seldom use it. It is in perfect condition and all of the cables, rack brackets, manuals, box etc. are still here.

Thank you,
Owen.

Put it up at KVR too matey, I can vouch for you over there, as could one or two others here too.

I assume it's a Ti and not a Ti2 because of it's age?

posting pictures in this thread would be a great start, probably get a lot more replies that way aswell.

Geoff: I will indeed, chief. I have an account on there, so I'll try to activate it again. Yeah, it's a TI 1.

Lovehate: Will do, thanks. Pics will go up in the morning.

friendly bump.

owen, you're pretty familiar with my productions, would you say i could benefit from a virus ti? im really content with what i have and i know anything else i need can be merited by more skill; just asking i've never used one.

Maciej, thanks for the bump. I was planning to put it on Ebay after Geoff pointed me to one that sold for over 800.

I'll be quite honest with you: I barely touched the Virus apart from when I used it as a temporary soundcard. I find hardware a bugger to use because I'm not very technically geared when it comes to music. I did get some very nice sounds out of the Virus, though; for instance, the following sounds came from it:

Jiao's Arduous Quest Skip to 3.25 and you will hear a "gritty" synth coming in. For a few bars, it plays a lower octave before jumping higher at 3.34.

The Plague She Fell Under The glitchy synth that plays immediately and all the way throughout.

Music For Video All the pads in this. Not the strings, of course.

I'm guessing you could easily achieve these sounds with software. You should ask Dave, Eric, etc. if they believe the Virus is capable of doing something software can't. I've never followed the endless debate, and based on my own experience I came to this conclusion:

I don't need it to make music by any means. The Virus will not be missed in my lab.

I would make a stellar sales representative.

To be honest i have yet to find a VST Instrument that produces the same quality sounds as my Virus. I use it in almost any production.

Posted by MSZ on Aug-10-2010 02:51:

cheers, the sounds cut through the mix nicely. i love synthesis and will definitely have to check the unit out at a future point; but, it sounds like something i can definitely live without.

I don't think the point of a virus is it's sound these days, for me at least. In reality it's very, very good VST instrument with a hardware dongle that doubles as a controller (again, just in my experience).

When I had mine, I found a lot of the sounds very inspirational, and it does have a certain something that you can call a Virus character, but nothing that I can't really do with sofware only.

Ultimately for me it came down to workflow. I didn't like the way the Virus integrated into my own setup and therefore turned to Sylenth/Predator etc every time. If somebody dropped a pile of cash in my bank account, i'd buy one again in an instant just because it's one of those desirable objects and as I said, quite inspirational at times. But in a world where I needed all sorts of other things for my studio I could live without it.

BTW Owen check out P4D for shipping. I'm not sure of the cost from NI but they're considerably cheaper than any other option for me when I sell on Ebay, plus they collect from home and give you live online tracking all the way.

I've finally put it on Ebay after having no luck from forum members.

It's moments like these that make me wish I had money. Hope you find a bidder though.

Same. All I could offer right now for it is a fiver. All I'd probably get in return is a slap.

Good get here guys. Best bang for your buck if you're looking to get into the TI family of Virus and want "Total Control" (no Snow BS) and "Total Integration)"

Agree with what a lot of what has been said here except i do believe the Virus clearly has its own sound. It is amazing for programming, the continued OS updates and support is mind boggling, and the amount of presets you can get for it will make the most elite Nexus user want to suck your cawk.

I disagree. The plugins still has some known sync issues and compatibility issues with certain sequencers. After years of development one should've achieved more.
Edit: Wait, it seems TI problems have been fixed about a month ago. Hmmm, interesting.
