Is camelphatt good?

I often think about getting camelphatt as various pros apparantly swear by it for bass and drum sweetening (whatever that means). I'm cautious though as past experience informs me that most everyone of these sonic tools is not up to the hype.

What do you think - just another gimmik or something that really gives a sound unavailable otherwise?

If you got the cash, Waves RBass is the best for low frequency enhancement. Camelphat is probably the best bang for the buck out there. Image Line's Maximus is probably the most underrated when it comes to bass and drums. Tom Day turned me onto it. It's all he uses to process his bass and drums and he has some H-U-G-E kicks. I'd give them all a look if I was you.

Imagine line - is it cheap! I want to get dsi mopho keys now so my better half wont want to see too much flowing out the Bank.
Also I tried to get something from imageline before and couldn't as it was telling me it was for flstudio users only?

Its good. Try it. The distortion is really pleasing, I've used the mechanical setting a few times recently, really gives you those screaming harmonics.

Of course, if you're producing trance you might find other tools more helpful. I tend to use it more for a lo fi effect more than for sweetening, since it suits my style better. Trance is generally a bit cleaner than the stuff I produce though so I don't know if it'll suit you as well if thats what your after.

Camelphat is very good, very useful on basslines and drums but also on vocals if you want them to scream.

+1 for RBass too although I've only used it a couple of times in a pals studio it sweetened up a bassline no end. Probably a bit more specific to just basslines that Camelphat though.

The Ohmforce distortion plugs are VERY good as well, Melohman I think it's called.

Oh yeah, and the Powercore has an excellent plugin called Character that does a similar thing to RBass, but i've used it on a number of channels to help bring things out in a mix.
